The wiki sais that the culture group determens the apperiance of characters portaits. What would happen if my german heir is educated by lets saiy an Chinese guy, adapts to his han culture and finaly is married off some German Girl I did the same with?
Would the offspring still have a german look or would it somehow Change to a Chinese Portrait?
If this this Grandchild of mine would not Change look, as it originaly is German, would other desendentw Change at some points their portrair as they would be offspring from han cultured people?

I was thinking of doing a game where I culture shift my (boring) european cultured Nation to a more op culture, however I would dislike seeing that my characters would Change to be asian people.
Will my buildings be afected by this or will only newly build holdings have the look belonging to the culture?

Short answer - no, your portrait will not change.

Long answer - Portraits are created via a hidden stat called DNA that determines the characters base face, skin tone and various overlays including hair style, beard, scars and pox marks. The game comes with various predefined "cultures", these are better described as "DNA templates", these don't change except by breeding. When you marry your character to someone else the resulting children will either use the father's DNA, the mother's DNA or a default "mixed" DNA, which is usually the Turkish portrait pack.

So if you were to change your German templated character to Han culture then you would still have German DNA. Your clothing may change but everything else will remain the same. There have been rumblings in the forums that hair and beard styles should convert to the new culture style (eg your Han cultured German should have facial and head hair styles as a Han) but AFAIK this has not yet been implemented.

One bonus though is that once you convert culture any character that you create via the Intrigue menu (eg Present Debutante, Promote Commander etc) will have your new culture and DNA, ie Han. If you then Present then marry a deb with Han DNA your kids will have around a 33% chance of having Han DNA and another 33% of having the relevant Han/German DNA (Turkish again ?). Keep doing this often enough and you will wash the German right out of your bloodline !

As to buildings, I am not sure but I think that only new Holdings get the new graphic the rest stay as they were, I have notices many places in the Middle East with various mixtures of Arabic, Turkish and even European Holding graphics.

You're not wrong, but you're not quite right about the "DNA template", either.

What determines what "face" or portrait a character gets is a secret value called "gfx_culture". This can be different than the culture the character is raised as (which can be changed during a lifetime, be it by education or decision).

The character's dna determines which parts (eyes, chin, nose, etc) are rendered to make up their face, based on the character's gfx_culture.

Hover your mouse over everything ! Back on topic, the last retinue at the bottom of the list is the cultural one.

Same limits as player, so no.

AFAIR, yes.

Not that i'd remember.

No I don't mean the regular graphics change from culture, in a western culture (Maybe others as well idk) a holding can shift to a boxy appearance instead of a circular one

I know all about gfx_cultures and have even modded some for my own use, I was just trying to keep the explanation simple. Basically, the three main considerations with DNA are gfx_culture, backgrounds and overlays, I was trying to explain that even if backgrounds and overlays (eg pox marks, scars) change the basic DNA (gfx_culture) won't.

In my most recent mod I noticed that you can even change DNA via script, I think that it would be great to be able to change say the shape of your nose or forehead by decision once you adopt a certain culture (Kushans anyone ?) !

Why is it that I can't make this guy my court chaplain?

I can put him as anything else on the council

He is a Feudal ruler (eg. main holding is a castle). Court Chaplain needs to be either a theocratic ruler (main holding is a temple/church) or a courtier.
Ah thanks, landing him for his claim seems to be more important than making him the chaplain anyway

Edit: how do I use the papal claims? On the wiki it states "You can request a claim on a county or duchy by pressing the "Claim" button on its title screen." but I'm not sure where that is. Is it this screen? because if so I can't click anything https://imgur.com/zFGlwC6

U got that wrong you can only usurp a title via that button if you own 51% of the de jure area, e.g. if one of your vassals would own 2 cities of that county you could press that button and get the title of that county without war.
How ever it seems like your courtier/vassal only has a claim on that county, thus you can only get this county if you go to war and fight over it (works only if the county is not hold by any of your vassals or vassals vassal).
If that character is on the succsession list you could also try killing everyone else and make him inherit in that was.

P.S. the usurp/create button works for all titles county/duchy/kingdom/empire As King as you hold 51% of all titles inside the de jure area.

If you click a duchy title as a catholic (/Fraticcelli) the usurp will change into "claim" and so for the price of 100 piety you can ask the Pope for a claim on the duchy. If he likes you, he will agree, if not, he wont. You will get an opinion hit for doing so so asking for a second claim is harder. That is, unless you are the pope's liege. Then he will give you as many claims as you want.

So I get the alert for court physician when I'm playing a Muslim (860ish Andulasia) but not while playing Norse/tribal/pagan (Snake eyes). Is this a bug?

Also is there a quick way to get your vassals to join your war if you are tribal?

Pagans don't have access to the recruit physician decision, so they don't get an alert about that decision. You would need to locate an invite an existing character or make one of your current courtiers into a physician.

On the armies screen, there's a button to call your tribal vassals to war, which will call in all of them

So I'm at a point where I can reform religion, but I also want to use my prepared invasion before I switch over. The problem is I don't want to acquire another kingdom title while I'm under elective gavelkind. Will I automatically get the title or do I have to usurp it?
