Okay, this one made me ragequit.

I am playing as Ireland. I am allied with Scotland and France. I declare war on England. England has an alliance with Scotland, but because Scotland has as good relation with me as with Eng (?) they don't join the war.

I am clearly not in war with Scotland. Neither diplo relations map mode displays this, nor the war screen; their units are also colored grey, not red. We have good relations. There is not a single sign of them being in war with me. Anywhere in the game.

And then comes a joint army of England (4k) and Scotland (8k), with Scottish army still having grey colors as in "neutral" everywhere, and they destroy my 5k army.

There is still no sign of them being in war with me; I check war scren and they are not listed as English allies. Nor do I have separate war with them.

What the hell?

It works like that in most, if not all Paradox games. The AI will almost always answer the defensive call, because that gives a massive penalty for dishonoring a defensive call to arms, versus an offensive call, which is minor.

The fact that they don't show as hostile to you, due to the "alliance" is probably a bug. It's not the only time I've seen it either.

That isn't what happened here.

In CK 2 armies that attach will always fight together even when they aren't at war with the person they are fighting. In this case Scotland's army is attached to England's due to fighting together in some other war so they will get involved in wars they aren't actually a part of. The neutral coloring isn't a bug as they aren't active enemies. Unfortunately, as near as anyone can tell this is actually the intended behavior despite how infuriating it is because it has been reported quite often over the years and yet it persists.

Where do I see a character's special attributes (fertility, health, combat skill)?

Which character focuses are the most useful to swap between (I tried a few but haven't seen the benefits of all of them yet)? Carousing seems almost a bit too strong, so I tend to stick with it after getting the benfits of the other ones (build a laboratory, get a hunting pet, etc).

Which battle traits are generally the best for your leaders (inspiring leader, heavy troops leader, flanker, etc)?

I know that you can view your fertility and health only in console mode or something. Haven't used it myself.

For combat skill there is a cross-sword icon that will tell you the character's combat skill.

I've used Seduction followed by Family to great effect, first to make lots of kids then to keep lots of kids happy.

Hunting, Faith, and Family are good later in life for the health bonus, but once I'm happy to pass on to my heir, I'll typically go with Carousing or Rulership.

Hunting also has the huntingdog event for an additional health so that's probably the best one if you want to live long.

As Carloman, is there any event that allows me a CB on Italy? I tried a game and got a claim on Lombardy but died to rebellious subjects, tried over and now the event did not happen. Not sure if it was just a random dynasty thing or whether it's part of his event chain (and if so, does anyone know what triggers it?).

Sure it was Carloman ? As Charlemagne there is the Carlomans' wife and children flee after assasination event which give Charlemagne a claim of the target,
but that shoudn't work for Carloman.

For combat skill there is a cross-sword icon that will tell you the character's combat skill.

Specifically:

Open the console (~ usually)

type charinfo and hit enter

close the console by hitting the ~ key again

When you mouse over a character you will get an expansive display of information including those two stats...

Thanks. I keep getting those two mixed up. Managed to form the HRE the next generation anyway, but holy crap, all I do is fight off factions all the fricking time. Third generation and I was down to two counties due to inheritance laws. O boy. Such fun, interactive gameplay, with much player agency. >_>

How does personal demesne interact with Patrician Elective? Playing as a merchant family, if I conquer a province or build a city, will the new holdings pass on to the new Doge or to my eldest family member?

As a follow up to that: as Venezia, how do I avoid instantly losing the game if any sort of rebellion spawns? I only own a single province and can't raise enough levies to fight off the enemy troops, and any hired mercenaries spawn in my capitol with zero moral meaning they get instantly wiped.

Well, the key is to be sure you don't have rebellions. If you get revolt risk, have your marshall suppress revolts. Also, levies from your personal holdings will raise with 100% morale. If you have a well upgraded family palace, you will have a fairly powerful core for your army. If you have somehow gotten your hands on the castle in Venice, you will have even more levy power. The city of venice can build the Arsenal building, which increases levy size and raises the city's fort level. I think it also gives ships.

Finally, if your capitol is under siege hired mercenaries spawn in a nearby province. As a note, if you hire mercenaries, be sure you hire about twice as many as there are rebels on Venice. Because Venice is a single province island, armies that would retreat are instead disbanded. This includes mercenaries and retinues. I lost a good 10k gold worth of retinues before I finally figured out that I need about twice as many soldiers to make up for my army starting at 50% morale.

As for your other question, if you conquer a holding, it generally goes in to your desmense. So if you seize the city in a county where you have a trade post, you, personally, get the city. If you as doge seize a city where somebody else has a trade post, they get the city. Whoever owns the city when you seize the county gets the county (though I'm not sure how having 2 different people own cities in the county interacts with that).

When you choose the "war for the coast" CB you choose which city will get it if there are multiple eligible cities there. (There will be multiple war for the coast entries in the CB list highlighting the eligible patricians).

Hi, I thought of doing a megacampaign but read that the euiv converter is outdated and bugged. However, I also heard there are some tricks that can correct that.
So, are there those tricks? Or any working mods instead the converter?
Sorry if wrong subforum or something violating the rules.

So, in my game, my vassal Godfrey of Gwent, Duke of Deheubarth, attacks York and gets captured by the priestess of St. Peters. He sits around in prison for a decade, but is doing all right (turns out it's house arrest). However, a decade passes, and from house arrest, Godfrey somehow manages to usurp the Duchy of York. So, now he's his captor's liege, but he does nothing about it, and she's perfectly happy to just keep him there.

Despite his incarcerated condition, however, he still somehow manages to get himself elected the Prince Mayor of the Cambrian League (my name for the Merchant Republic Kngdom of Wales). He's still under house arrest.

Basically, I'm just asking, huh? Is this a thing?

Scotland has an Alliance with England?
Who do they like Better ? You or England?
They Might Like you but like England better?

Were they at War with England?
Sounds like a Cross war? If so Their Armies would be Hostile to You.
