Is there any benefit from holding the home duchy title in an independent kingdom other than prestige? I am playing my first game as Egypt, and the Duchy of Cairo is only two counties. It seems preferable not to create the duchy title so I can hold two other duchies. Thanks.

I can't really think of any significant benefits, so feel free to leave Cairo uncreated.

Actually, when you create a custom kingdom it automatically moves all of your current territory into its de jure (and out of England). So you would be back to square one for creating England, and you would have to conquer 50% of the rest of England that you currently don't have in order to create it. You really only want to use that option if you don't foresee being able to create the de jure kingdom before you run out of vassal limit.
Sorry, I should have said it doesn't have any de jure claims rather than de jure territory, so any later expansion will always be into another kingdom.

Hi all - I'm sure this was asked before but I can't find it.

So I'm the Byzantine Emperor and was able to invite the heir to the kingdom of France to my court. I married him maternally to one of my kinswoman. If I were to grant him a county and make him my vassal, will the kingdom of France fall into the Byzantine Empire when he inherits?

Instead he'd leave the empire together with the county.

Instead he'd leave the empire together with the county.
You have to grant him an equivalent-tier title to the one he inherits. That way, when he inherits, the title you granted remains his primary title and he becomes your vassal. Otherwise, if he only had a count title within your realm, upon inheritance, the independent King of France title would become his primary and he'd go independent. This occurs even with the "Controlled Realm Inheritance Law" enacted.

Note that this is different from claim wars, where you can give them any landed title, including a barony, and they'll remain a vassal even after you press their claim.

In either case, be careful with the title you give him though. I was just in the middle of a claim war and had the claimant lose his land due to a internal de jure holding war. He then ended up in another court and I couldn't bring him back, so he become independent when I won the war. I probably could've requested them to end the war or handed out another title, but didn't pay enough attention to what was going on because I was busy fighting an external war...

Others have already answered that won't work, but what you did wasn't for nothing though it might take a generation or two before you can profit of it. The rulers of France will become your dynasty, so you'll eventually be able to invite a claimant to your court and just press the claim.

I'm playing a Pomeranian line of my dynasty, and have ended up holding the Kingdom of Wallachia as a primary title (and that's where the lion's share of the realm exists). My capital is in Avar land. Russians have settled the northern reaches, and I've just conquered Greek land along the Black Sea coast to the south. Of course, I'm nowhere near any Pomeranians.

Should I change my culture? Note: I am reformed Slavic, and the reformed Slavic faith is triumphant throughout Eastern Europe (but the Byzantine Empire has been converting to Catholicism; the Orthodox faith crumbles before both Catholicism and Slavicism). This means I can always raid, regardless.

(I also just ended up with "The Dragon" as a nickname. I'm just going to call that "Dracul.")

There is no real need to change your culture. You only get culture opinion penalty with people in the same realm, so changing culture would not improve relations with your neighbors. If anything changing culture would do you harm, by making your Pomeranian vassals hate you and by potentially destroying any cultural buildings you might have built.

It depends though, some cultural buildings are hot garbage anyway so replacing them would be a good thing. Personally I never build them because of how they just go up in smoke if your culture changes even for the instant it takes to click the "convert to local culture" decision after inheriting.

I believe you do. I tried that a long time ago when creating mercenary bands. Your character should inherit the Empire, and a random captain, one of the captain's for the mercenaries will pick up the band, of which you will still be supporting and paying for.

Am I missing something, or if you fail the "plot to fabricate a claim" plot, can you try again and again until you succeed? Are you prevented from taking the plot if you already took it once?
You should be able to repeat the plot repeatedly, unless there are circumstances preventing it, namely the title changing hamds, or being involved as the primary title for a war.

It seems a little silly that there is a chance it could fail in that case - it really doesn't mean much when you can just do it again and just reinvite all the people who were supporting you a minute ago.

You don't?

You can invade if you're independent, but that means you lose a percentage of your national levy, and have to fight back an against "invading" Chinese army which is about 25% to double your levy size.

Does anyone know, why my stupid sons don't produce any children? One of them has one daughter and that is it, the other one has no children to begin with.

Neither them nor their wifes have any traits that would reduce fertility, one is even lustful and the other has the family focus, but nothing. I even gave them some land, so they move out of my court but the wife of the older son just stayed at my court for some reason.

Fertility drop because your court is too big?
