Did the requirement to make a vassal merchant republic change? I gave the duchy of Man to a city holder, but they are just a regular republic.
Is there an event I can fire for them that will turn them into a merchant republic?

You tried to create a MR froma female ruler? Well, that explains it then. MRs (and patrician families) can only be ruled by men. Even if you max out rights of women or have a feminist religion.

The good news is that Man will automatically become a MR as soon as your sister dies and a man takes over the republic.

I am the feudal custom empire of Eire. Does it matter that the person who holds the title is my sister, and not a man?
As Dragatus said - it matters and it matters A LOT. Girls cannot be trusted in money business, while they can be trusted to rule their serfs with absolute rule, lead armies, perform sacred rituals and call great holy wars. But as for money - Paradox says no-no-no

On a side note - Dragatus, are you sure it will auto convert to MR under those circumstances?

I'm 99% sure. The one problem appears to be that the duchy of Man was given to a woman. As soon as that problem fixes itself it should trigger the conversion to a MR.

I just failed to press several personal fabricated claims with a war because I got distracted by an invading Chinease force. 10 years after lossing the war the truce comes up but now I am not able to press my claims. I still have the strong calims. I can declare other CBs. I thing I was never in this situation. Is this WAD?

To clarify, you declared war for the claims and lost it due to the Chinese invasion distracting you? I'm not sure, but it might be WAD with the logic that you can press a given claim against a specific character only once. If that is true then it should be possible to press the claims against the current ruler's heir after the ruler suddenly dies under suspicious circumstances.

My ruler died first making all claims weak -.-

If the claims are weak the problem could be that you do not meet any of the conditions under which weak claims can be pressed. But I was also under the impression that fabricated claims could not be inherited.

What's a reliable way to lose the zealous trait as an unreformed pagan? I tried the scholarship focus and studied the stars but the event chain ended without a chance to become cynical. I later picked theology focus and it doesn't seem to do anything.

I just had exactly the same problem. Some patches ago the scholarship focus removed reliable the zealo

No no. The fabricated claims were strong and become inherentable once you try to press them. Like I did. But I couldn't press them again after the failed war.
With the next ruler I had only weak claims which cannot pressed simutaniosly so I went for another strat.

If you chose Stars ("How do the stars move?) instead of Weird i suppose it should have worked
Code:
# Split event - heliocentrism or weird?
character_event = {
    id = WoL.6020
    desc = EVTDESC_WoL_6020
    picture = GFX_evt_comet

        has_focus = focus_scholarship

In the "Starts believing in heliocentrist theory" event though removing zealous is limited to muslim and christians and onyl has a 50% chance.
