Is it possible to form HRE (Charlemagne start, and as Charlemagne himself) and not have the coat of arms change to west francia? (primary kingdom title) As the dynasty coat of arms shows, it makes me want to have that for my empire title as well (the basic HRE coat of arms)

Sorry, but the decision gives the HRE the coat of arms of your previous primary title. You can't use your dynasty's CoA, but you do have control over which kingdom's CoA the empire gets (by making whichever one you want the primary title).

Is it still possible to use a Subjugation CB as a Norse pagan after taking the become king ambition? Haven't played in a long time because I detest (still do) the new education/childraising events.

Thanks, DW

After taking, yes - on independent chiefs of your de jure kingdom. After becoming the king no, it is impossible as the ambition uses up even the one-shot subjugation cb you get for being a tribal.

I thought so. It was an overpowered ability, I suppose. It did allow you to build empires pretty fast though. Thanks!

So early on is there a point to expand?

Since I don’t have the tech yet my kingdom keeps getting divided among my family after death and is a pain in my ..... Should I assissante constantly and/or war with my family members to get back my land?

Or is there ways later in the game the kingdom can come back together?

Hello!

I am green to CKII (got it just recently), but i have 1000+ hrs of EUIV experience, so i am not totally out of Paradox sphere. I currently don't have any DLC's apart from Legacy of Rome and some content packs. I plan to eventually get most of them, but i would like to know which ones are recommended to get first? My main region of interest is Balkans (namely, Serbia/Duklja, Byzantium etc), Rus, and Iberia.

Also, some general tips for a beginner would be cool. I have less than 8 hrs of game time, most of which were my attempts to quickly get claims on Bulgaria and Byzantium as Stefan Uroš IV Dušan. Took me a few to figure out that one does not merely 'claim' in CK like he does in EU :D Serbia's supposed to be the strongest in the region, but i have some troubles besieging Epirote holdings (i'm losing a lot of money by having my levies lifted, and they always seem to raise levies and get into my territory to annoy me, even though i besieged both of their provinces.

What defines when a war is a defensive war (and therefore my vassals don't care that I've raised their levies)? Do you have to have been attacked, or is joining on the side of the defender sufficient?

If you're someone who has access to an easy to use CB for quick/continuous expansion, then just keep expanding. Keep some of the newly acquired land for yourself rather than giving it away on each new succession.

If you don't have an easy CB for quick/continuous expansion, then the goal is generally to grow to the point you can gain a higher ranking title before succession splits your land. Do note that you can still retake that land. If succession results in an entirely new realm splitting off, you will get a claim you can use to retake that lost land. Succession is more of a speed bump on expansion, not something that makes it not worth it. As a new player, you really don't need to game things, don't worry about keeping your dynasty small or assassinating your siblings. You really don't need to.

Joining a defender counts too. Any war you are currently in where your side is considered the defender will work. What will trip you up more often is knowing when you're the defender or not.

I have started playing with the seduction focus for the first time. I am an emperor and It seems that I have fathered a bastard son with the wife of the heir to a vassal duchy. The duke’s heir thinks the boy is his. Can I turn this to my advantage somehow?

The boy will be treated as if he actually was the son of the duke's hair, so no. And if the truth somehow came out, the bastard son would have no claims because he simply wouldn't be related to the duke's heir.

If you wanted to use seduction to get a son with a claim you'd have to seduce an unmarried woman with an inheritable claim, get the little bastard in your court, and legalize him. If you are an unmarried woman it gets easier because you can seduce rulers directly, so your bastards get better claims and they will be in your court to begin with. But on the flip side you'd be taking a worse opinion penalty and I think you'd lose prestige too.

Seduction can also be used to game gavelkind succession. The idea being that you don't marry, seduce every unmarried woman in your court, and wait to see which of the bastards turns out the best, then legalize that one. If your heir dies, you legalize the next best one. The downside is that there is always going to be a period where you have no heirs and you risk losing everything.

Perhaps the most reliable and pragmatic use of the seduction focus is getting opinion boosts so that you can persuade people to join your murder plots.
