Courtiers whose claims you press only become your vassals if they are of your dynasty and you press a claim on a title that has a lower rank than you have.

For other courtiers you have to land them first before you press their claim and again you can only press a claim to a title that has a lower rank than you or else they'll become independent and take whatever title you gave them to land them.
Yeah thats not what I'm asking though. I don't care if he becomes my vassal or not since he was matri-married to my dynasty member and had a child already and I had seniority succession, so some time in the future I would become king anyways.

The problem is that he didn't become king at all, the previous guy remained and all that happened I believe is that he lost 100 prestige.

Also now I have a new problem, my liege died and I became regent of his 7 year old son who is my grand-son, since I had a NAP with him I had to break it to be able to join factions, and once the truce timer was over I still couldn't join them because I'm still his chancellor and the discontent time is over by now. Yet there is no way to resign from the council anymore apparently, the button doesn't appear on him. Might that be because I took the ambition to get on the council previously?

That does sound very strange. You did make sure to press the claim to the kingdom of Aquitaine, right? It wasn't the duchy?

1) What is your stewardship score? It being terrible will lead to a small demesne
2) What is your centralization level? The lowest centralization level has no demesne bonus, higher levels increase demesne size
3) It is possible the mod you are using further restricts demesne size, you'd have to check with others who play it
4) Is your council empowered (assuming conclave)? There's a demesne bonus if it isn't

All that said, a demesne limit of 6 isn't unbelievable if you and your spouse both have poor stewardship scores, even for an emperor. OTOH even a count can shoot well past that number if conditions are favorable...

Oh right, I forgot about the de jure possibility. In my defense it's a very rare case. In my 1500 hours of playing the game I actually don't remember a single case where I pressed such a claim.

I'll use it occasionally-it gives you a loyal vassal rather than someone who hates your guts for attacking him and the war is the same either way so if I have a claimant handy...

I'm checking now and it's definetly a kingdom claim (the duchy of Aquitaine is under the theocracy of France instead currently), though it is a weak claim and there is an adult and capable king ruling, but my claimant is third in line to inherit, so it should work. But now that I am checking again even the "If we win this war we gain" thing is saying that he would only lose 100 prestige. Which is really odd. Might it be because there is a war to make him pay tribute happening currently? Though I can't remember if I ended the war before this one started or not. Probably didn't.

For 1 I actually meant your individual but if you want to add in the 1/2 your spouse score that's ok too as that is what actually determines your demesne bonus from stewardship ability...

Lowest centralization gives 0, emperor base is 3 or 4 (been a while since I actually kept playing a game as an empire), gavelkind is 1, empowered council is 0. To get above 6 under those conditions your ruler stewardship bonus would need to be +2 or 3 which as I recall is 20 or 25 (ruler +1/2 spouse) respectively. Everything seems to be working as expected to me (assuming you aren't tribal or nomad as they are calculated differently).

Any mods? What is the name of the CB? "Claim Aquitaine"?

Hmmm strange i had something in mind about a higher demesne size, but as you said seems to be working as usually.

Thanks anyway for your help, more land for my greedy vasalls than.

What would I have to look for or do in a savefile to completly remove existing secret religions or just their cults? This is on my first game back where I didn't know how bad this really was and so I didn't change the rules to prevent it, now I have crushed one big revolt already though and revoked almost every landed character of that secret religion except those outside my realm (it's suomenusko and it's already in spain and ERE...) but now it's coming back and I'm starting to get spammed by the suomenusko books again.
I edited the savefile to not allow secret cults or demon worshippers already, and luckily it seems to have worked for the demon worshippers but I think it only made it impossible to create secret cults and doesn't remove existing ones. Now I want to edit that whole thing out too though, would prefer to just change one line or something like "exists=yes" to no or something, but if not possible i'll just go through the console route and kill every unlanded and baron and switch and quit on all landed ones. Still wouldn't prefer to do that unless neccesary though since it would probably kill a fair bit of my dynasty and other prominent dynasties and I also can't know if there would be future cult problems from some other one already created.

No mods, I'm playing vanilla and yeah it's claim Aquitaine.

I really have no idea what it could possibly be at this point. Maybe you can upload the savegame so I can check in game?

If I'm not papal senior - what are the conditions of the excommunication?

The only time I ever got excommunicated was after an event where I was in debt and confiscated church property. Others have reported getting excommunicated after refusing to change from free investiture to papal investiture.

If you are asking what it would take for the pope to excommunicate someone you want excommunicated, then I think he has to like you and he has to have a negative opinion of the target.
