Not that I can recall, and not recently? Might it have been something like a duel from a seduction or underhanded rogue character event?

Any event that gets him wounded. Potentially during education, martial training, war focus, rivalry duel, Holmgang, returning varangian, etc.

I thought if one held more than 50% of the de jure counties in a de jure duchy, one could claim/usurp the duchy title? I own two of the three counties in a de jure duchy, but if I try and claim the duchy it says the Pope will deny my request. Both my ruler and the owner of the duchy title are vassals with the same liege.

Asking the Pope for a claim is a completely different thing than usurping the title. You cant usurp from fellow vassals. You can, however, plot to give yourself a claim on the duchy if you own any land in it.

That's because you're trying to claim it and not usurp it. You can't usurp titles in the same realm anyways though, so you'll have to plot for a claim on the title, and then press it.

You don't have to wait for it to fire, iirc you just need three backers and 100% plot power and you can fire it by decision. You can use your spy master to get extra plot power, but usually with four people you have enough.

How do you create vassal Republics (the non playable ones) as a Merchant Republic? When I search via google or the wiki I just get how to create a Merchant Republic as a Feudal Government. If it's like creating a merchant republic as a feudal government I have issues making cities the capital of counties and I can't appoint a Burgher for them if I do manage to set a city as the barony capital.

Can someone remind me of when portraits and units switch from early to regular? is it year 930?

The date is defined in the file /common/defines.lua, which you can edit any time you want, although be warned that any edit will invalidate Ironman games.

The date for early period is currently set at 950 and for later period is 1200, you can find these values from line 872 in the above file.


I've just noticed that one of my ruler's sons has only one hand and is scarred. He's never been to war. How might this have happened? He's a lustful underhanded rogue, if that is of relevance.

Farm accident, he got got his arm caught in the threshing machine. Happened a lot in agrarian societies. :p

It's done the same way as any one else does it. Own the current capital and the city, right click on the city, select "make capital", and then give it away to someone through the Grant Title diplomatic option just like you would a Feudal Count.

So, the wife of my ruler's heir is in another ruler's dungeon. There doesn't appear to be any way to ransom her or fight for her release. As it stands, she has no children, so her heir is the Duke who is imprisoning her.

1) Is there any way of getting her out? Perhaps fabricating a claim on the county she is being imprisoned in and then capturing it?

2) If not, what's the best way to end the marriage so my ruler's heir can marry someone else?
