This is probably an old question and not necessarily related to CK2. But I haven't had any convincing answers online for this.

What is a checksum? I see these random series of numbers and alphabet on the lower left corner of the menu screen and I guess that's the checksum, but what does it do? Should I be paying any attention to it? Should I wonder why it takes time to load checksum sometimes and why it instantly loads at other times?

It's the output of file integrity check. It's used to determine if you're eligible for achievements and who you can play with online, and a sanity check for bug reports.

Do someone has a bug, that duke-rank vassals have no +25% to levy, but count-rank vassals have (it's incorrect), on latest patch?
You mean the no capital country bonus bug? I also have it since 2.7.0.2.

Beginner here - I have questions about dealing with factions.
  1. If I want to send my spymaster to scheme and discourage people from joining a faction, where do I send him? My capital county, the county of the faction leader, or the county of the claimant the faction is supporting?
  2. If I revoke the title of the faction leader, will that end the faction? I have low crown authority, the text that appears when I go to revoke the title seems to indicate that doing so won't upset my other vassals, because I am the faction leaders de jure leige. Is that correct?
  3. What else could I do to limit the danger that a faction poses to me? If I improve my relations with the factio leader, will she give up?

Also, a completely unrelated question: I have been plotting to kill someone for quite some time. I have been at >200% plot power for several years now (at least 5, maybe more like 10 years), and have not seen a single event related to the plot? Any ideas why that might be?

Thanks!

1. You let your spymaster scheme, so you don't need to assign him anywhere. If you don't have Monks and Mystics you have to send your spymaster to one of the provinces of the faction member you want to discourage
2. If the leader leaves the faction, I think it's another member who becomes leader. So it won't stop it, but the faction will be weakened. Your vassal is most probably a traitor, which is why you can revoke his title, but that's not related to the fact he's in a faction. It could also be that the county you're trying to revoke is the de jure capital of your empire, or that you're revoking a duchy in an empire which allows its free revocation.
3. Convince other members to leave the faction (with the help of your spymaster or with bribes) or get more troops (archers + light infantry retinue is a good way to make your vassals think you're more powerful than what you actually are)

If you form a non-aggression pact through marriage that prevents vassals from joining any faction while at the same time preventing you from revoking any of their titles. If you have Conclave DLC and enambled the law to allow the council to vote on war declarations then putting someone on the council also prevents them from joining any factions as long as the council is not uncontent.

Also, a completely unrelated question: I have been plotting to kill someone for quite some time. I have been at >200% plot power for several years now (at least 5, maybe more like 10 years), and have not seen a single event related to the plot? Any ideas why that might be?!

Bad luck. It's just random chance.

- Target being paranoid for instance while no trait that makes it more likely for an event to fire.
- Not enough plotters to increase the chance significantly enough.

Hello, after five successive generations of only having one son and a bunch of daughters (including six twice!) my character finally had two sons. Oops.
Over that century or more I've picked up one or two titles, including a couple of empires, so now I'm in a mad scramble to change all the inheritance laws, which requires changing all the Crown Authority Laws. Almost all my vassals love me and yet in the different votes I'm getting about 10%.
Any tips on getting my chaps to vote the right way so I can get to Medium Crown Authority? I promise I'll lower it again once the inheritance law is changed ;)

Is there something wrong with the embrace culture decision for your children? I've notice two times in my games where I decided to "Embrace The Culture" of my province that it says my children should change with me, but they didn't?( My children were all 5-12 years of age )

Yes.

In some ways this is good as you can, for example, nominate a fellow count of your dynasty and get titles brought together that way. OTOH, the ai also likes to screw with you and that inbred wrong culture cousin looks mighty appealing to them...

- Not enough plotters to increase the chance significantly enough.

Last I checked Paranoid didn't seem to have any effect on the frequency of events firing (other than the +1 Intrigue it gives to the target that is). What it did instead was greatly reduce the chance of most assassination attempts from working.

Any tips on getting my chaps to vote the right way so I can get to Medium Crown Authority? I promise I'll lower it again once the inheritance law is changed ;)

In my experience vassals become more prone to vote for your laws once you get past 50 opinion, but it's not a guarantee. I've read that they may also not support laws if they're 'unhappy with the political situation' but I'm not sure what that means or whether it's actually true.

If you don't manage to raise crown authority an alternative would be to change succession in secondary empires to anything that isn't Gavelkind and destroy them. That would upset the vassals but prevent realm splitting so pick whichever you prefer. You can later re-create the secondary empires and they'll copy the succession and gender laws of your primary title.

A third option is to turn Muslim, if you can. This will automatically switch succession law for all titles to Open so one son gets everything. Additionally it will allow you to increase Crown Authority for 100 Piety without a vote. Then on inheritance (or whenever you convert back to your old religion) all titles will revert to Gavelkind. Downside is that you'll cause a lot of unrest among your vassals and you might get picked as a target for a crusade (or great holy war).

The fourth and probably simplest option is to give your second son a bishopric. That will disqualify him from succession and if your eldest ever dies you can simply revoke the bishopric and he'll become eligible to inherit once again. Revoking titles is now a simple -15 opinion penalty that lasts for 5 years, so an otherwise popular leader can easily afford to revoke a title every now and then.

Is there something wrong with the embrace culture decision for your children? I've notice two times in my games where I decided to "Embrace The Culture" of my province that it says my children should change with me, but they didn't?( My children were all 5-12 years of age )

The "convert to local culture" decision only converts your own culture, it does not convert your dynasty. The various "embrace X culture" events on the other hand should also convert every member of your dynasty who is in your court and who has the same culture as you.

For example if you're Norse and you have a Greek sister and a Norse brother and you embrace Swedish culture the brother will convert to Swedish along with you, but your sister won't. And if you have a Norse son, but he's in another court he will not convert either.

Does having Councillors research Military, Economy and Cultural technology benefit a count with only one county, or does it only help with spreading technology to other counties? I know researching Military might, because there is a percentage chance of revealing military secrets.
