No, it doesn't. The levies that you get from a vassal as a liege magically appear out of thin air and don't detract from the troops that the vassal has himself (or herself).

Then I should get my liege to implement the most levy shifted law possible to save cash. Unfortunately the other lords will disapprove.

Changing Culture of Holy Orders

How do you change the initial culture of Holy Orders?...

Culture and/or religion of orders and mercenaries is set in landed_titles.txt, as far as i recall.

If I am a duke and my sister marries a count who is vassal to another duke, what is the non-aggression/alliance status between that vassal and I if the duke and I go to war? The vassal will be at war with me also, or would the marriage tie have any effect?

It should have the effect that the count won't join his liege in his war against you.
That vassal will still give levies to his liege.

What's the story (aka what are the rules) in regard to this... resetting of succession laws when you die, after you have gifted a county/counties to your heir.

Something about counties "remembering" their old laws...?

thanks in advance

Every duchy and county has a certain succession law which it remembers. However, these individual succession laws are overruled by the succession law of their holder's primary title. For example if you have a duchy with Gavelkind succession but your primary title is a kingdom with Primogeniture succession the duchy will use Primogeniture succession instead of it's remembered Gavelkind succession.

I personally like to call the remembered succession law the de jure succession law of the title and the one that is actually used the de facto succession law of the title. I also tested this and if you have two duchies that each have a different succession law you can freely switch between those two laws by changing which of the two duchies is your primary title.

I am not sure whether titles retain their succession law when they are granted to someone or not, but I suspect they do (as much as possible given the culture and religion of the new holder). If that is actually the case then whichever one was granted first becomes the primary title and will determine the succession law after succession (as long as the holder doesn't also inherit a higher title).

For example if you're a count with two counties and the primary one has Gavelkind while the second one has Seniority your de facto succession law is Gavelkind for both counties. If you then grant the second county to a son he will have it as his primary title and he'll have Seniority succession. When he inherits your Gavelkind county that one will become his secondary title and both counties will follow Seniority succession. But if after granting him a county you later create a duchy and he inherits it, then he'll have the duchy as his primary title (because it's a higher rank than the county he already had) and he'll use whatever succession law the duchy has. But the de jure succession law of his first county is still Seniority and if it ever becomes someone's primary title again it will start using Seniority succession once more.

The son of a vassal has murdered his imbecile father to take the title (Count). I have valid grounds to arrest him without penalty. If I arrest him and try to revoke his title, it looks as though I will get a tyranny penalty. If he resists arrest and takes up arms against me, does that count as rebelling, whereby I won't get the penalty if I revoke the title?

Yes. Murder is not sufficient grounds to revoke a title, but rebellion is.

I got no answer last time so I will ask again, how do mande characters keep ending up in Sicily? Every single game I've ever played, lowborn mande characters end up as wives in sicily. Not in north italy, not in spain, not in tunis, but for some reason in large numbers to Sicily

There is no special reason for them to end up in Sicily specifically, so unless it's caused by a mod it's simply due to random chance.

Can one make alliances with vassals of other rulers, or would one have to make an alliance with the vassal's liege?
Yes you can, and you can call them to war independently of their liege as well (though I don't know how vassal war declaration law interacts with it). Though note that if you're allied to both the vassal and the liege, calling the liege to war will remove the vassal from the war.
