What causes the Norse culture to split, and what happens when it does? How does raiding work in the time past the start of the viking age? I heard that once forts become a certain level they block raids is that true?

How does one make the various crown jewels type items? I can't seem to find a decision anywhere that would trigger it, and none of the mnm_ event files seem appropriate for it (they are all society files).

If I recall you get an event where an event where a craftsman who is renown for making items arrives in your country (similar to the guy who makes weapons) and you have the option to call him to court to make items for you at different tiers (pretty much it goes like cheap-middle-expensive). the items are a crown, a ceremonial sword (No combat bonuses) and something else but I forget what it's called.

  • Norse culture will split by region after an event trigger, UNLESS the Norse are unified in an empire or their religious head is Norse.
  • The same way it works before it.
  • More specifically, fort levels on provinces with banks on a major river will eventually rise to the point where you can no longer sail inland as a Germanic pagan, e.g. how you can sail through Russia or up into southern Germany on the Danube. I don't know what the threshold is.

I think you can get it if you have Great Pox, though I don't recommend trying that.

What causes the Norse culture to split, and what happens when it does? How does raiding work in the time past the start of the viking age? I heard that once forts become a certain level they block raids is that true?

Between 950 and 1150 provinces in Scandinavia can get a random event where their culture changes from Norse to a localized culture (Danish, Swedish, Norwegian). When Norse rulers have a province in their realm that flipped to a localized culture they get a decision to convert to the localized culture, which will also convert all the dynasty members in their court.

The following things will prevent the province event from triggering:
1) The province is in the realm of a Norse emperor.
2) The province is in the realm of a Norse double king.
3) The head of religion of the province's owner is Norse. Essentially this means the Germanic Pagan religion has been reformed before the culture split happened and the ruler of the province hasn't converted to a different religion (such as any form of Christianity).

Similarly Norse rulers will not take the decision to convert to a localized culture if they are part of a realm that includes the provinces Uppland, Akershus, and Sjaelland.

Provinces with Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Norman culture also cannot convert back to Norse culture until the year 1150. If at that point there are any Norse rulers left their provinces will slowly begin to convert back to Norse through regular culture conversion mechanics.

Viking raiding is enabled by either having Norse culture or Germanic Pagan religion. As long as you manage to hold on to one of the two you'll be able to continue to raid.

I'm not sure about forts, but I imagine they must increase the amount of loot that is protected. That would mean you get less loot from a province, but staying in there and sieging down the holdings should allow you to still get it all.

Is there another way to gain the Lunatic trait other the Learning focus?

Nothing reliable as far as I know. The best I can come up with is getting a Divine Blood religion and interbreeding with close relatives. Dinivne Blood religions make you less likely to get Inbred and more likely to get Lunatic. Though that gives the trait to your heir, not to your current character.

Due to a fit of over-enthusiastic crusading, I'm currently King of Sicily and Lithuania, with the option to create Ruthenia. Given that I don't have Charlemagne and therefore can't create a custom Empire, is there any actual benefit to having the third Kingdom title?

Extra prestige? Other than that, the Ruthenian duchies will start to de jure drift into your primary kingdom if you don't create it.

Personally, at this point I'd try to take over Italy and create Italia.

That's basically the plan, yes. It won't be exactly easy since I have to take duchies off both the HRE and Francia (1066 start, France has blobbed significantly) while convincing the ERE that it doesn't want to use its de jure CB on Sicily, but at least it should mean the game remains interesting for a while yet...

I think you get a full list if you are in the character window and mouse over the picture.

In any case, page 12 of the ledger lists all titles you are close in line (first 3 spots I think but not sure) to inherit as well as where in line you are.

Do feudal (unreformed) pagans get the attrition penalty in tribal pagan counties?

I just tested and as a feudal Slavic pagan from Pomerania I did not notice any significant attrition while fighting in Jylland's territory (them being tribal Germanic Pagan). So my best guess is that it's based purely on religion and government type is irrelevant (at least by default).

Were double names patched in? I had an earlier emperor named Oda Gosh so I named my heir after few generations just so (Oda Gosh), supposing that he will go by Oda Gosh II, however he ascended as Oda II Gosh, turning Oda Gosh into Oda I Gosh.

This of course raises a question whether this applies for all names and if it means that now, Henry I will be succeeded by his son Henry John as Henry II John, then by Henry Joseph Henry III Joseph and then by another simple Henry as Henry IV.

Certain cultures just stick the regnal number in the middle of their name, afaik. Catlan and Occitian do this as well- Ramon Berenger de Barcelona becomes Ramon I Berenger de Barcelona.

Well, I am Visigothic. However, the question remains whether I can just give my kids double names and the regnal number will count just the first name.

To elaborate:
I am king Aurelio. I name my sons Aurelio Juan, Aurelio Pablo and Aurelio Ranimiro. Will they succeed me as Aurelio II Juan, Aurelio III Pablo and Aurelio IV Ranimiro or will they become Aurelio Juan I, Aurelio Pablo I and Aurelio Ranimiro I?
