Excuse me for the noobish question, but I quite like marrying for stats (strong, quick, genius, etc) and thus am a big fan of the Elective Monarchy succession, as it allows me to pick the Genius/Quick/Strong kid. However, it can be somewhat unreliable, particularly when your vassals don't like you, which tends to happen a lot when you conquer a kingdom that is a different culture from yours.

For instance, in one of my games, I managed to conquer the Kingdom of Hungary as the King of Eastern Bavaria, and of course the Hungarians hated me and kept rebelling against my rule, and at some point I was already fighting a rebellion in my main title (Kingdom of Eastern Bavaria), I had to give them Elective Monarchy, and since they hated me they chose an Hungarian heir. What are my options ? I can always have the would-be Heir(s) assassinated, but I don't like that very much. I can also have my spymaster give me evidence of their Dukes' schemes and have them imprisoned, then revoke their title and give them to German guys, burrying all of those hateful Hungarians under their rule, but that obviously isn't perfect either.

Do you guys have any idea/solution ? I know the game isn't supposed to be a game in which you always end up ruling the entire world, but I'd like to know if there are other options when my vassals keep electing different heirs than the one I want.

This is the first time I hear of that event. I don't know if it's working as intended, but what your brother could do is try to marry a close relative of his to a close relative of hers. That should give him ground to form a new NAP.

Found it: Conclave event ZE.9100. We're digging into the details now.

Thanks for the suggestion.

In the long run you'll need to replace those Hungarians with Germans, one way or another. If you assassinate the guy they chose as heir, they'll just pick another Hungarian to replace him.

1. Okay I intend to start a game as a Muslim ruler.

As a Catholic ruler I try to get as many dynasty members as I can into landed positions. I'm lead to believe this is a bad idea as a Muslim, correct? What is the best way to manage vassals then?

2. Which small muslim ruler (duke or multiple county count) is interesting to start with and what goals should he have? (Outside world domination.)

3. Unrelated, currently King of Sicily and Byzantine Emporer under Elective Monarchy. Also, the game has gone on long enough that most candidates in the empire are of my dynasty.

I want to step down from emporer but retain my Kingdom title while letting a kinsman inherit the empire. Is that currently possible or am I stuck with having/losing it all?

Yes, landing family as a Muslim is a bad idea. This is because you no longer control them and if they turn decadent you won't be able to demand that they straighten out (decision available in the religion tab). This demand costs you 100 Piety and if the character refuses, you can put them in prison without tyranny. And you should always do that because imprisoned characters don't generate decadence.

The only landed title you ever hand out is when you have a good son and you want him to be heir, so you give him a barony to put him ahead of everyone else in succession.

Muslims can revoke duchies (emirates) without tyranny, so if an emir dislikes you, you can just take his emirate away and give it to someone else. Also, if you're Sayyid you get an opinion bonus with all Muslims.

2. Which small muslim ruler (duke or multiple county count) is interesting to start with and what goals should he have? (Outside world domination.)

Someone else will have to give you suggestions for the ruler to start as, but one fairly obvious goal to have is to become Caliph.

One option is to try to get the achievement The Calphate Strikes Back and start as the Abbasid Caliph in 1066, a vassal of the Seljuks.

It is possible. What you need is to have someone of your dynasty elected as the next king of Sicily and someone who is not of your dynasty elected as the next emperor. Since most candidates for the imperial throne are of your dynasty that means you may have to set up a few non-dynastic dukes first.

Not landing dynasty members seems a bit harsh on the potential prestige gains...but I'll give it a try.

The stepping down from emporer also seems a bit complex, though I understand the theory. Will there be any hope in the future where we can voluntarily step down while keeping the other titles?

Your dynasty might be less prestigious, but the only effect of that is that your sons will be born with less prestige. When one ascends to the throne he will be able to get 2000 prestige quick enough with a nice little war or two.

As for marriages, Muslims neither gain nor lose prestige when marrying so dynastic prestige is not factored in at all.

Can somebody explain for me this little detail regarding the tribal subjugation CB and the the "become king" ambitions:

I know that the "become king" ambition lets a tribal ruler declare subjugation wars multiple times on anybody in the kingdom he wants to form. However, do you still get the one-time subjugation to use against somebody else?

I remember when I played as a Norse character about a year ago, I was able to do that (i.e. subjugate everyone in Norway and use the one-time CB on Svitjod, ultimately getting to form both Norway and Sweden and being able to reform my religion soon afterwards). However, when I tried the same run again, it seems like the free subjugation CB disappears after your first time using the one provided by the "become king" ambition. Also, I remember that this time I had subjugated Sjaelland, but would that still fit under the kingdom subjugation CB if they have one county that fits into the de jure Norway territory?

Yes, but you may need to use that first.
Well that is inconvenient. Is that a recent change? (i.e. within the last year)

What Kingdom did you subjugate with the CB?
I was playing as Harald Fairhair in the Old Gods start, and subjugating everyone in Norway. Sjaelland has one province within the territory that I can take with that CB.
On that note, is there any relatively easy way to reform the Norse religion in one ruler's lifetime now? Last time I tried it, playing as Harald made it really easy.

I had around 40,000 men going up against 20,000. I had more units of every kind except horse archers, where the opponent only had around 2,000. I however not only lost the battle, but my forces were crippled. By crippled I mean I went from 40,000 to 9,000.

Why did this happen?

So a viking took over rome. I took it back.

I want a pope vassal. How do I press an anti-pope's claim against the unlanded pope?

Also, it's been 6 years since crusades were unlocked (906) but the pope still hasn't called one. Does he need to be landed to call a crusade?

I am in charge of a merchant republic (currently kingdom tier), and I have successfully seized a county from one of my vassals. However, the capital of this county is a castle, and I would like to have this place be controlled by a city (I'm thinking of moving my capital there at some point), but all of the subholdings are owned by baron-tier vassals. I apparently can't revoke their titles without having a claim on them - can my chancellor fabricate claims on baronies, or can the chancellor only forge claims on counties and duchies?

I had around 40,000 men going up against 20,000. I had more units of every kind except horse archers, where the opponent only had around 2,000. I however not only lost the battle, but my forces were crippled. By crippled I mean I went from 40,000 to 9,000.

Why did this happen?

You must have gotten unlucky with tactics. Possibly you charged into a Force Back.

If you're Catholic there should be a "restore pope in Rome" decision available in the intrigue tab.

I'm pretty sure it's only counties, duchies, and kingdoms (with Conclave and if you have the become king ambition).
