I really, desperately want to play CK 2. However, while my computer will start it, it suffers a lag that is off-putting. I just want to play the game's basic concept of dynasty building however.

With that in mind, would CK be a reasonable replacement for my CK 2 urges or has it aged badly?

Likely a silly question (essentially, is it good?) to ask on its dedicated board, so in your answers, could you list features and generally give me a run-down of the differences. :)

Crusader Kings alone does not compare well to it´s successor.
If you want to compare something you should at least consider Crusader Kings 1 + the Deus Vult addon, perhaps in addition a mod that suits your interests.

I still favour FtG (the EU2 engine game and successor to Europa Universalis 2) to EU3 simply because my computer is at the low-end of recommended systems and EU3 sometimes slows to a crawl on my machine like it sounds in your case with CK2.
