if they can get this working for HoI3, expect future titles, including most likely a medieval game (and a 19th C game), to have the similar possibilities when developed.
It may be HoI3's time now, but unless you believe Paradox will leave gaps between Rome and EU3 and between EU3 and HoI3, then there is clearly grounds for optimism in the future for both fans of the CK and Vicky time periods.
hmmm . . .
OHGamer, just for purposes of stirring the pot while we're sitting around waiting for news from HOI3, I'll respond and say I think you are indulging in a major serving of wishful thinking.
It may well be true that Paradox has it in mind to "fill in the gaps" historically, as you suggest. But that's not what people want -- or, at least, that's not
all they want. You know as well as I that Victoria in particular had elements in its design that have never been used in any other of their games, such as its economic model and the brilliant way it parsed populations by religion, employment, ideology, and all the rest, which led to some pretty sophisticated poltical elements in the game. I am especially disappointed that EU3 made almost no advances in terms of the design of the economic system, certainly nothing remotely as sophisticated as what they tried in Vicky. In its essentials, in fact, EU3's economic system remains basically what it was in EU2 (and possibly in the original -- I can't remember any more). That'a not a good sign, if we are to hope for another go at Victoria.
We may get a small clue to Johan's future plans if it turns out that HOI3's world market introduces dynamic pricing for its component goods, instead of fixed exchange ratios, as HOI2 had. Ditto national populations and the modeling of politics in the game. If the modeling of either the economy or politics makes a big departure from HOI2 -- and I think that's a huge "if" -- we may have hope. Otherwise, we'll have to just enjoy this game and not worry about what might or might not come after it.
As I said, this is just food for thought, because we're sitting around wating for the games to begin.
