This. I enjoy the chess-like abstracted strategizing more than TW's tedious real time battles. Not that one is better than the other, just that we already have the TW formula, so I am grateful for a different approach, and one more suited to being a king.

OK then can we Throw CK2 into TTW

ROFLMAO

Even Paradox's own King Arthur and The Kings' Crusade has better real time battles than TW series. Made the mistake of buying two of TW series games and found out that the battle system was not fun at all. This is not the case with King Arthur and The Kings' Crusade games as on my opinion it works better in them.

Reallyb ? i never played king Arthur cause it seemed copy paste TW with a magical excuse.

OTHO which game did you buy ?
Empire and napoleo where a pain in the nuts Imho.

I actually thought of these. Both games are about politics and dynasties. Just that CK2 is more dynasty and politics while MB is more military.

I can only wish the two would come together.

Empire was so stupid...making France and Spain a single province...I saw games, in which Württemberg conquered France in like 1710. :D

What the paradox games need, is a decent enough battle mode. Did anyone ever play crown of glory? That had a turn based "world map" and turn based battles, that were quiet engaging.

Actually probably I am better off that they do not combine the 2, because if they had a game like that I would probably lose my girlfriend or my wife, or both of them.

It would be the best game ever from paradox and i dream about it. it would be great if paradox makes an expansion or DLC that could allow us to decide the direction of the battles, like in Total War series or Mount & Blade series.

I was joking, however, i wasn't joking in that it would probably incur some serious relationship problems. Women tend to get angry when they feel ignored, like when you play a game 40 hours a week.

This idea has been around since CK1. Do you have any idea the scale of what you're suggesting here? You're saying Paradox should create a whole second game and then weld it on to the existing one.

If you really want to play your Crusader Kings battles, just use Medieval Total War's create-a-one-off-battle ability to set them up.

Ideal combination = CK2 + Medieval:Total War 1 (not 2) for field battles + Stronghold 1 (not 2) for sieges and castle built up.

Um CK 2 map and dynasty engine with more plots, And lets wait for Rome Total War 2....

I loved the castle battles in Shogun total war 2, but the strategic map stacking gets boring after a while.
To be true, all games of that kind get boring after the initial moments were theres little of political Chaos. When someone blobs it gets mainly have it all or loose it all due to stacks numbers. CK2 being maybe the first exception for me. And i think its a winner because its not war/focused, but dinasty and people focused, at least more than others.

The only problem i see is that being you player you and not your temporary moronic craven general it wouldn t be fair for the AI.
OTHO, how many TTW players tend just to stack and auto resolve, because after a while it get boring to battle again, and again and again.

Two games are already existing. What's the problem with welding? It seems pretty simple, especially you would not have to change any of them.

There are voices that Total War is boring - I agree with this statement - it is not a strategy (to shallow) and tactical battles are interesting only against human player.
But Warband tactical battle... has a lot of potential to be turned into something amazing. Especially if research and development of battle options would take place.

A game... which allows new options through research. This has not been anywhere yet.

I haven't played Kings Crusade, but in King Arthur it sems the units just run right through eachother as opposed to the mass of Total Wars units, where a line can actually hold another...

I think anyone that thinks adding a tactical game element to ck2 would be easy doesn't fully appreciate the challenges of software development. The content development alone for adding warband to ck2 would be enormous, figuring out how to represent 20000 soldier battles in warband, it would be alot of work for something that would inherently unbalance the game in favor of the human player. Integrating ck2 with a tactical battle resolution element would be exrremelly challenging to do well.

Why would it be so hard? Warband already does it! It just handles it by sending men in waves instead of putting them all on the field at once.

quite right.

warband overmap =/= CKII worldmap. at all. no comparison. not a good analogy.

they should merge it with Mass Effect 3, because then the ending(s) wouldn't suck that much.

anywho...

quite right.

warband overmap =/= CKII worldmap. at all. no comparison. not a good analogy.

We weren't talking about the campaign map, battles only, of course we want to keep the CK map.

I also think the only part "CK2-would-able" (lol) from Mount & Blade, would be the battles themselves...

what a game it would be... *___*

guys, the coding and game engines would be totally unrelated. it's in no way "easy." come on, think.
