This came up in general, but I like the idea very much and feared it would get overlooked there so I'm reposting it here.
Simply put the idea is to re-release CK2 1.05 (the last version before the release of Sword of Islam) as a free promotion game under the name Crusader Kings 2 Classic. And then in the main menu you add a big button to buy CK2 proper for those players who still don't have it.
Since the whole point is to release the polished version of the original release there'd be no work with patches or anything and it would be mostly a one time investment. And because it's the original release before any of the DLC there'd be lots of missing content that could draw players to buy the full game with all the patches and perhaps DLC. And a nice big button in the main menu would make that easy.
