And then the game will hang during startup.
This is VERY weird, because I've been playing CK2 for years and only now I have such issue. No problem with other games, EU4 opens and runs smoothly. Game version is Conclave, but i dont think it matters. I tried version 2.4.5 and it happens just the same. Please help me. It might be something wrong with my computer, but I heavily doubt it.
My specs: Win 10, IC i7-3740QM, 12GB ram, GeForce GTX 680.
I've played CK2 some months ago, then uninstalled. Then I installed it again some time ago and this problem occurs. Nothing changed in my computer.

here is screenshot http://i.imgur.com/Kj4Cvlk.png

EDIT: For comparison: EU4 uses only as much as 0,5-10% CPU at startup.

The 100% cpu usage is intentional, they multi threaded the games startup a few versions ago so it uses all of your CPU to make startup faster. Not sure why its hanging though.

Thats just brilliant...

"Not sure why its hanging though" - Because all the fkn cpu is strangled... The devs are geniuses (thats irony ofc, theyre the opposite). From a fine game that loads with no problems (sometimes a bit long but thats no problem) they made game that doesnt load at all due to cpu being KILLED (literally). If thats not a "genius" then I dont know what is...

Tip to devs: Why dont you give us the option to choose between multi threaded and normal startup instead of FORCING US to quit the hanging joke of a game and do something else instead???

100% CPU usage really shouldn't stop the game running, most stability benchmarks actually consist of putting your CPU through that kind of stress to see if your computer is stable. I had a worse CPU than you and it worked fine. Might be something wrong with yours.

Maybe not likely, seeing how your EU4 works fine, but have you cleaned out the dust in your CPU and GPU fans? Or check their temps when the game starts?

Some systems when encountered with sudden high CPU usage and high temperature it will purposely lower its efficiency and start spinning the fans real fast to prevent overheating and total meltdown. Lots of dust create a -75% fan efficiency and the automatic lowered CPU output can easily lead the process to hang (the process starts with a 5000RPM CPU and then it suddenly falls down to 1000RPM so it just dies unable to keep up with the work it was going to complete)

Hang where during startup?

I ask this because. Post conclave I've noticed that sometimes it takes the checksum a god awfully long time to build. And I think this is either because it is the first time of the day that I'm loading the game.

Or because I impatiently hit the load button before the checksum is built thus attempting to load all of my load games and build the checksum at the same time bogging the whole thing down.

That's quite strange indeed. I have a similar processor with 8GB of RAM and the game loads up in say 10 -15 seconds, then you get your checksum almost instantly. Granted, when I used to have my laptop which had a 2Ghz processor and 6GB of RAM the game would take like 5min to load up (and would occasionally get stuck). Then the checksum would take another full minute or two.
