If the Kingdom of Jerusalem were to be independent, it would be nice to have a special notice of some sort when it gets attacked by Muslims or really, anyone else. Knowing when Christians in the Holy Land are under attack would be rather nice...
the resultant kingdoms should also start out allied with those who participated in the crusade so that they're better defended. I've seen Jerusalem get beat up without anyone helping it survive before, and that's kind of annoying. I realize that's pretty much what happened in real life, but there should be a chance of something else happening.

only problem with that idea is that the only alliance type available is marriage alliance. so at that point it's entirely dependent on the reigning king to be active in perpetration for the counterattack. Jihads give a global message to all players but in the case of regional holy wars i do agree that rulers with the crusader trait should be notified of holy wars against Jerusalem... also concidering their power invasions should also get a global message.. i don't know how many time fati has used an invasion and conquered a place i was depending on staying christian without me noticing for 20 years

EDIT:forgot to add, that i also believe that both Zealots and crusaders should have an increased likely hood to join in defense against Jihads regardless of distance.. within reason of course

Yeah, Jerusalem is swatted down in an instant without any resistance. Mostly because the holy war system causes a domino affect for neighboring countries of the same religion to join in, but since the Byzantines are "Orthodox" and Jerusalem is "Catholic" the game doesn't count Orthodoxy as Christianity, they just stand by while heathens take the holy land from Christian hands. Another nitpick is to change how the kings of Jerusalem almost always convert to Levantine culture and calling themselves Sultan of Jerusalem, even occasionally converting to Sunni. This would never be even slightly plausible, nobody would ever kill dozens in defense of their religion, then just become the ones they sought out to destroy.

Ideally all land taking in the crusade that isn't part of the Kingdom of Jerusalem should also Change hands which is what happened with Tripoli and Antioch in the first Crusade.
The Byzantines should get a Popup yhat gives the option to Raise the Attrition Value of the Holy land for the crusaders called (Receiving Supplies)
Holy Orders should Always come to the defense of Jerusalem, its why they exist, if Jerusalem is ever declared war on by a Muslim they should immediately even if Vassalized by
another Nation.
The AI should be improved to better handle Desert Combat staying on the coast and favoring already occupied counties to move through.
Crusader events where armies can sack cities, Settle Pilgrims, Force Convert en masse
The ability for Crusades after the first to go off course when conditions are met and Target a Nearby Christian Nation instead. (Like if a Ruler nearby is excommunicated, Byzantines turn down supply option and so on) Crusades in the Holy Land may Target Greece instead and the Resulting Title is the Latin Empire, Crusades for Egypt or Africa may target Sicily, Crusades in Iberia may end up going to Aquitaine, Burgundy or Aragon.

Holy Orders going on Personal wars of Conquest when Jerusalem doesn't exist, with Weight on the Baltic, Holy Land and Northwest Africa but also with the Possibility of Teutonic/Templar Invasions of other Muslim countries.
More in depth Holy Orders along with more Religious meddling in General.

I think part of the issue is that the Pope is the War Leader in the Crusade but never sends any troops (which is right and proper I think). But this means the normal mechanic for allied armies attaching to the War Leader's army does not apply and thus the armies scatter about ignoring each other. Perhaps a mechanic which promoted the first leader to join a Crusade to be the War Leader would help as allied armies would join his. The mechanics of it could be discussed, perhaps the war leader could be replaced if defeated or by some other mechanism. Perhaps whoever had the largest contribution at any given time was the "Crusade Leader" maybe.

Once the Crusade is done (if it wins) perhaps the various leaders that joined the crusade would get the various provinces (count titles) handed out between them divided up according to contribution. Thus it was not winner takes all, but rather a mess of crusader states with rulers form various lands. Then the normal mechanics of forming Duchies and Kingdoms would apply to try and create the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

As the Byz were instrumental in kicking off the first Crusade perhaps, in a nod to history, the various crusader states all get an automatic special alliance with the Byz once the Crusade is victorious. Then is a back to normal game rules...

All the Crusades need is the AI to be more sensible in arranging its forces for the campaign. Also the Pope should spend all his money on the Crusade, draw all mercenaries he can, but he should not get any war score from it.

Thirdly I think that all successful crusades should result in an independent kingdom if the winner is a Kingdom or an Empire.
