All land should be eligible, the Albigensian Crusades were against the Languedoc, for example. And I think the war of 1288 between France and Catalonia-Aragon (after Aragon conquered Sicily to the Anjous) was granted Crusade rank by the France-sympathetic Pope. So there are historical examples.

IIRC Greven said you could crusade on your own. Mostlikely get more piety points for crusading against the enemies of the Pope as Wulfram said.:)

What about Western Finland (Varsinais-Suomi)? They were christians before Swedish "crusaders". Carelians and Tavastians were not, but proper finns were.

Well, perhaps the "prestige" of the crusades should be somewhat less if the pope should declare too many crusades. Everyone understands that the reconquest of Jerusalem is a valourous goal, but there shouldn't be so much fame and piety to gain in the 23rd crusade against a christian sovereign the pope happens to dislike...

A very high Badboy value

should be a trigger for a crusade against the player!

In such situation any Iberian player Kingdom will have a field day with the Sarracens just in their footsteps. Perpetual Crussade if you will like. The Iberian Christian Kingdoms had even a "special" dispensation for not being able to go to the Holy land because of their Muslim ongoing fight. Piety points should flow there with no end.

After the Holy Land was lost to Christians the Popes declared a ton of minor crusades against the Christian enemies of the Chruch (i.e. whoever the Pope was pissed at).:)
