I suppose in this case you would want your BBIVs, or maybe a CVL depending on its range, to be the shortest ranged capital ship.
You may want to send a few wolfpacks instead. Or a CTF and pray for good weather.

I'm not claiming that Cruizerg fleets are the best in all circumstances... or for that matter, best in ANY circumstance... I'm claiming that they are (one of) the best for a low-to-midrange budget navy.

For instance... if Germany is planning a massive invasion of Russia, they can't really afford to pour all of their ICs into SHBB construction... but they can build a very effective Cruizerg navy with a low-to-moderate IC investment.

And it is quick. If Germany wants to finish off UK before Treaty of Munich, cruizerg IMHO is the most effective way.

If you want to see examples of successive engagement tactics (engaging with one fleet after another) then there are several examples in my Fatherland AAR. The battle of the South China sea is probably the best with lots of German fleets engaging a single US uber-fleet. This sort of skirmishing with cruizerg fleets is the way that you deal with a single concentrated enemy BB fleet. The trick is to run something like a caracole attack with your fleets engaging the enemy repeatedly whilst extracting your badly damaged ships to safety. You will find that it starts off looking like cruizergs weren't a good idea but after a few engagements the enemy ships start dropping like flies whilst you suffer a modest loss rate from the start.

Emu, in the naval guide it recommends using a few SS's in addition to a standard fleet disposition to increase the possibility of surprise; in particular with CTFs. Do you believe this principle applies to the Cruizerg fleet method? Do subs give you a potential surprise bonus with this composition?

And thank you for the feedback. I'm also playing MDS and seeing how to best apply this with their models given entirely different ship statistics, but the same basic system. Should prevent my fleets from getting toasted by Chinese SSN's like they have been.

I am definitely NOT a fan of adding SS to surface fleets.

SS are very slow... and the Naval combat engine appears to have been tweaked (not sure just when) so that ship speed is now quite important in determining whether or not the Task Force closes to its preferred range.

Also... in Armageddon v1.2, a change was made to ASW warfare which causes any fleets engaging a Sub to immediately close in to ASW range... which might be disasterous for CTFs or for gunnery fleets that have a range advantage over at least SOME of the enemy ships (eg: enemy DD screens).

I suggest NOT adding any SS to your CTF or SAG fleets. Use them in SS-only fleets.

OK.. so, as Germany, I'm now building the following fleet:

3 CA IV +FC
15 CL IV +FC

Is this OK? Both have a range of 3000

Don't add the FC to the CA if both are model-4. If you do then the CA+FC range will be too far for the CL+FC to get in range.

It's the gun range they're talking about, not mission range (3000km is a mission range).

So, two question for Cruizerg fleets experts:
Now should we CV instead of CVL o just CA and CL?
Should DD be used in Cruizerg as screens for CA and CL?

No to both, the point of the cruizerg fleet is that the capitals and screens are all in range at once. Having one CV in the fleet would cause the entire fleet to try and stay at the CV's range, not allowing the cruisers to fire.

The DD's firing range is to short and they would not be in range, the CLs are the screen in the cruiszerg fleet anyway.
