Thanks! Glad you like it.

So, Celtic culture means you can have Tanistry right? Might be a way to get that attractive, quick potential heir on the throne.
I never tried tanistry, maybe I should. But I need to change the gender laws first, as Agnatic is just bleh.

Interesting goals, one of my personal favorite game types (islands only). Not very useful for CK2, the fun really starts when you convert to EU3.
Thanks. I have EU3 but haven't played it yet, is it similar to CK2?

Chapter 5

As for the rest of the realm, Morgan sent out a call to all capable minor Breton nobles in the countryside to come to her court.

ck2_1899.jpg

[SUB]All miraculously stewardship-trained.[/SUB]

Of course, Morgan's court moved in the meantime, to Middlesex. She decided to keep the duchies of Bedford and Kent as her personal demesne. She also spent most of the money gained from the banishments of the Norman and Saxon nobility to start the construction of three new cities in Middlesex, Essex and Bedford.

ck2_1900.jpg

[SUB]The rich lands.[/SUB]

The rest of the lands went to newly promoted Breton nobles. Here's the nine new dukes:

ck2_1911.jpg

[SUB]Strong Midas-touched hunter? Robin Hood I suppose.[/SUB]

ck2_1912.jpg

[SUB]Wroth, cruel, lustful hedonist. A man after Morgan's heart.[/SUB]

ck2_1913.jpg

[SUB]Quite capable guy.[/SUB]

ck2_1914.jpg

[SUB]Rather lame but treacherous.[/SUB]

ck2_1915.jpg

[SUB]Mostly harmless.[/SUB]

ck2_1916.jpg

[SUB]Content hunchback, good that he's content as he rules one of the two biggest duchies.[/SUB]

ck2_1917.jpg

[SUB]Smart, capable, powerful but untrustworthy.[/SUB]

ck2_1918.jpg

[SUB]Impaler![/SUB]

ck2_1919.jpg

[SUB]Capable content hedonist, nice.[/SUB]

And here's England after the Great Land Reform of 1095:

ck2_1920.jpg

[SUB]Note the fractured realms all around. Once the crusade inevitably fails, it's time to invade Wales and start thinking about Ireland and Scotland.[/SUB]

I haven't played CK for a while, and there's one thing I notice different - the army and navy flags. Since when do they look like banners? I'm guessing this may have something to do with Sunset Invasion, where Aztecs had all flags looking like that.

Good idea, though becoming an Empire is the most important right now.

I think those came with Legacy of Rome, but I'm not sure.

Chapter 6

Another claim in Wales was gained while waiting for the crusade to fail.

ck2_1921.jpg

[SUB]That makes it a whole duchy.[/SUB]

But soon, bad news arrived. King Knud (who became duke of Slesvig in the meanwhile) was murdered most foully by (most likely) some Danish scum. This meant that Klaoda was now duke of Slesvig...

ck2_1922.jpg

[SUB]Who the hell managed to murder him right from under my nose?![/SUB]

Morgan quickly remarried to a frankish steward.

ck2_1924.jpg

[SUB]I only married you for your stewardship![/SUB]

And yet another claim in Wales was procured.

ck2_1925.jpg

[SUB]Moar![/SUB]

In 1098 A.D., the crusade came to a predictable end.

ck2_1928.jpg

[SUB]Fail.[/SUB]

This, of course, meant that Morgan could finally order her armies into Wales.

ck2_1929.jpg
ck2_1930.jpg

[SUB]Two in one swoop, of course.[/SUB]

She also took to a new hobby - having courtiers who hated her and had some money that could be inherited murdered for profit.

ck2_1931.jpg

[SUB]Murder. Death. Kill![/SUB]

During the trivial wars in Wales, Klaoda showed his ambitious side.

ck2_1933.jpg

[SUB]Sure, why not. We might gain the Danish islands, and what could go wrong anyway?[/SUB]

The wars were just a series of assaults on poorly defended Welsh castles and towns.

ck2_1936.jpg

[SUB]Blitzkrieg at its finest.[/SUB]

Once again, Morgan called for three new nobles to join her court, and distributed the lands between them.

ck2_1938.jpg

[SUB]Then she created the duchy of Deheubarth and granted it to Urvod de Ludlow.[/SUB]

Morgan and her court was on the wrong end of murder again, and she lost her alliance with the HRE behemoth.

ck2_1939.jpg

[SUB]Live by the dagger, die by the dagger.[/SUB]

The final claim in Wales was procured.

ck2_1940.jpg

[SUB]Gotta catch 'em all![/SUB]

Naturally, this meant another blitzkrieg.

ck2_1941.jpg
ck2_1943.jpg

[SUB]Pfft.[/SUB]

And another roll call for new counts.

ck2_1945.jpg

[SUB]And a new duchy and duke.[/SUB]

The armies now moved to Denmark, where they quickly turned the tide of war.

ck2_1947.jpg

[SUB]Danish armies were even weaker than those of Welsh dukes...[/SUB]

But he Danish king had a secret weapon up his sleeve.

ck2_1948.jpg

[SUB]Oh noes![/SUB]

The news from back home was a mixed bag.

ck2_1950.jpg

[SUB]Really? Best steward in Europe fails so hard?[/SUB]

Oh, and king Svend III forgot that Morgan always had her way with the popes.

ck2_1951.jpg

[SUB]And that the popes love gold...[/SUB]

Thanks. I have EU3 but haven't played it yet, is it similar to CK2?

It has its similarities, but it is a completely different game. Still, it is a grand strategy, with a similar difficulty curve, so getting into it won't be too hard. One major difference is that you can have naval combat. That means your goal of owning islands will give you a wooden wall against any enemies you have. There is a converter which takes your CK2 save and makes it into an EU3 mod, so you can continue your game into the next stage.

Wow, I'm just speechless. Excellent work blobbing everywhere, and a very surprising development, revealing the ambitions of your not-so-cruel son and heir. As to who could have killed King Knud ... well, let's just say sons have a habit of trying to murder their fathers if they can inherit a title.

Is there a reason why you didn't create Kingdom of Wales, or was it just so that you don't have to deal with managing it later? It was quite a piece of luck managing to fabricate all those claims in a short period, and I would have just created the kingdom to expand further and sent my chancellor somewhere else.

One last note - you might like to try getting the randomly-generated nobles married off before you give them a duchy. This avoids them intermarrying and forming a potentially threatening superduke, because we all know there's no such thing as true loyalty in this game. Also, eugenics.

And yes, you should play EU3. I find it to be far less stressful to play than CK2 - no perpetually backstabbing underlings to have to worry about.

Well, wars where 8k armies fight 300 men who aren't Spartans...

Really enjoying it, hope you can become Empress before you die.
Thanks! As for Empire... given Morgan's age, I wouldn't bet on it. ;)

It's just Wales, that's hardly everywhere! :D

And I thought kind characters don't plot murders, but that might've been just my imagination. And the Denmark adventure will come back to haunt us and force a radical change in England. Wish I never married that Danish prince, Denmark was never of any real help, unlike HRE and Poland.

Is there a reason why you didn't create Kingdom of Wales, or was it just so that you don't have to deal with managing it later? It was quite a piece of luck managing to fabricate all those claims in a short period, and I would have just created the kingdom to expand further and sent my chancellor somewhere else.
Well, at 20% per year, 6 claims should take 30 years, and it was actually more than that. As for the crown of Wales, let's just say it takes a while to get 200 piety when you don't want to waste money on it.

One last note - you might like to try getting the randomly-generated nobles married off before you give them a duchy. This avoids them intermarrying and forming a potentially threatening superduke, because we all know there's no such thing as true loyalty in this game. Also, eugenics.

But nobles can't intermarry in first generation when they're all single men with no relatives. And down the line, one can't stop them anyway.

Chapter 7

With the threat of excommunication safely taken care of, Morgan felt confident in the war for her son's claim on Denmark again. But king Svend still had some tricks left.

ck2_1952.jpg

[SUB]Fortunately it was just a few hundreds of longbow fodder.[/SUB]

Soon after, the war was over.

ck2_1953.jpg

[SUB]Ha![/SUB]

Morgan's success convinced the people of Middlesex that the Bretons were there to stay.

ck2_1959.jpg

[SUB]Go assimilation![/SUB]

In 1105 A.D., Berthildis le Fay, the eldest of Morgan's children (if only by minutes), was murdered by some Italian swine. This sent Morgan down a spiral of obsession with revenge.

ck2_1961.jpg

ck2_1962.jpg

[SUB]Sadly, this was never to be fulfilled.[/SUB]

With Denmark secure in Klaoda's hands, Morgan looked up from her plotting against the di Treviso scum long enough to give orders to invade Ireland. The war for Dublin was trivial, and the county, along with duchy of Meath, was granted to Morgan's grandson Bran.

ck2_1967.jpg

[SUB]The beachhead has been established. Proceed with invasion![/SUB]

Obviously, Kildare was next on the hitlist.

ck2_1972.jpg

[SUB]It was subjugated in no time.[/SUB]

Slowly, Morgan's mind began to snap from the constant brooding over the di Treviso murderer.

ck2_1971.jpg

[SUB]Poor courtiers paid the price.[/SUB]

Once her son-in-law Rangvald died, she snapped completely.

ck2_1973.jpg

[SUB]Can I have lunatic too pls?[/SUB]

Half-crazy as she was, she still managed to notice a horrible fact - Klaoda decided to abandon his Celtic heritage and declared himself a Dane. This could not be tolerated! A betrayer of one's own heritage has no right to inherit the Celtic Empire!

ck2_1976.jpg

[SUB]I said the war for Denmark would breed trouble...[/SUB]

So Morgan disowned him.

ck2_1979.jpg

[SUB]Eat tanistry, traitor![/SUB]

The new heir, as chosen by Morgan and agreed upon by everyone, was Morgan's grandson Jehan. Alas, once he had a son, every vassal of Morgan's decided that the baby Guimarc'h would make a better king than his father.

ck2_1983.jpg

[SUB]Did they have DNA scanners or what?[/SUB]

Of course, the efforts in Ireland continued.

ck2_1986.jpg

[SUB]I can haz Ulster?[/SUB]

So who got the county? An Irish guy called Niall from the neighboring county of Oriel. I wonder why?

ck2_1989.jpg

ck2_1990.jpg

[SUB]Duh.[/SUB]

The war was, of course, trivial again, and Morgan formed the duchy of Ulster.

ck2_1992.jpg

[SUB]Not hard to guess what for.[/SUB]

The remaining lords of Ulster submitted to Morgan's rule willingly, seeing the benefits of united, powerful Celtic Empire. Niall Ua Néill Noígiallaich (what a name!) was declared the duke of Ulster.

ck2_1994.jpg

[SUB]OK, not lords, lady & lord.[/SUB]

And Morgan declared herself the Queen of Wales.

ck2_1995.jpg

[SUB]Not to be confused with Queen of Whales.[/SUB]

Morgan's inability to put the di Treviso six feet under made her feel stressed.

ck2_2001.jpg

[SUB]77, possessed and stressed? Uh-oh.[/SUB]

Won't be long now... great job snapping at the Irish. And poor Klaoda, disowned for the culture he associated himself with!
