I am playing a game of 1.08, and I have run into a problem with crown laws blocking my inheritance. My character is a duke in the HRE and is married to the duchess of Aquitaine. They have three sons, and my duchy has feudal elective inheritance laws.

The HRE has high crown authority, and I understand that that means that there can be no external inheritances, but my sons are locked out of inheriting my titles. They are all in my court, but they are listed as heirs to various French duchies that my wife owns because of her gavelkind laws. The crown authority in France is medium, so I don't think that is the problem.

I don't understand why my sons aren't able to recieve votes. If they had already inherited titles in France and were subjects of the King of France, I would understand them not being able to inherit, but since they are in my court and my "vassals," I think that they should be eligible to inherit my titles until the point that they inherit an out-of-realm title. I planned the marriage so that my character is ten years older than my wife, so I was fully expecting to die before her, so that my kids could inherit my titles first and then inherit hers. Is there anything that I can do to make them my heirs? I can vote for my oldest son's daughter, but not him, so I am almost positive that it has to do with them being the heirs of French duchies.
It doesn't make any sense considering the rules.

Any help would be appreciated.

That does sound like the games taking an overenthusiastic interpretation of that law - if they haven't inherited anything yet, there should be no reason for them to be excluded from succession. (The game could also be a bit more respectful of dynastic heirs, but thats by the by)

Have you tried giving a son land?
