Ive asked this before, but it needs asking again.

Why can everyone attack my crown colonies with impunity but I can't return the favor? I'm playing Britain and have 5 colonies. They're routinely attacked and I'm never called in. But if I want to attack Spain's colonies they're automatically included. It's greyed out, even.

Why does this not work both ways? I did find a use for the "Enforce Peace" button, bit you should at least have a "Defend your colony" CB, if nothing else.

It's not actually Spain attacking your colonies, it's their colonies attacking your colonies. Nations with their capitals in the New World can attack other countries in the New World without their colonial overlords intervening. This is also why freshly spawned CNs are at extreme risk of being eaten by natives. However, the Overlord can use Enforce Peace on the aggressor, and if they decline, you are called in and AFAIK also take leadership of the war. I'm uncertain if you can join a colony that started a war with another and managed to get into conflict with the Colonial Overlord though, because I only extremely rarely play as global colonial powers.

Indeed, if your colony is the aggressor and is losing, then there's very little you can do about it. Be very careful with the "start war in colony" subject interaction!

New world capitals being able to attack other new world capitals without initial involvement of old world power means natives have more of a chance vs spain with low countries + france + Hungary + Spain, as well as slightly mirror french and Indian war, if its taken to be a seperate war not just a theatre of the 7 years war

I'm pretty sure that if you set your colonial subjects as countries of interest you will be notified if they are declared on. If I imagine correctly this could even work in your favor, as you could declare on the aggressor and have two peacedeals(if desired) after killing their army.
