Crossplay between Steam and Microsoft Store

Hello!

One of my friends recently acquired this game through the Xbox Game Pass on the Microsoft Store. I own this game on steam, and we tried to play multiplayer together. When he tried to join me his game crashed and when I tried to join him I was unable to join. Does this mean there is no crossplay ability between Steam and Microsoft store? And if not, will there be?

To the best of my knowledge, there is currently no crossplay ability between Steam and the Microsoft store for HOI4.

However, there are Beta versions of crossplay for both Stellaris and Imperator. My guess is that once the bugs are identified and fixed in the Beta versions, then crossplay will be rolled out for more of the Paradox games.
