As far as I've understood it, you shoud be able to cross the sound if you control Malmø. I'm playing as Germany, and having conquered Sweden, Norway and Denmark, it still doesn't work. Is it a bug or have I misunderstood the line in the readme file?

If it is a misunderstanding on my behalf, I'd immediately suggest that the game is changed so that it is possible. If you can drive from Odense to København, and even from Lübeck, then there is no reason why it isn't possible to do it from København to Malmø. Øresund is not as wide as neither Storebælt nor Fehmern Bælt, and it makes no sense. It is fine if it requires you to control both before doing it (ie, no attacks without transport ships) but it should be possible

Its not possible. Entries in the readme file are probably the ones about the ability to block naval access. You seem to be able to walk across in other Paradox games but not in HOI. If you are interested in changing it, I believe it may be possible by editing some configuration files (adjacent.tbl in the map folder ????) but I don't really know.

Yes, I think Øresund should be like any other strait in HoI.

From the readme.txt:
- You can now go through The Sund if you control Malmö.
- You should now be able to block landmovement across straits/between islands, if you have a fleet there.

The Sund reference relates to the question about blocking the Baltic for naval units. In previous versions Sweden could control Malmo but could not sail out of the Baltic towards the North Sea. That was corrected so that any country controlling Malmo could sail into and out of the Baltic.

The generic straits message is about moving land units when naval units are in certain areas. Previously you could move land units from one island to another in the Pacific and a few other areas and naval units could do nothing to stop it. 1.06 added the ability of naval units to prevent land units from moving in some straits (there is a FAQ listing them).

The question of whether during WW2 all of these Danish areas and a land connection to Malmo should be treated the same for land movement is difficult to answer. You have to think back to what the conditions were in WW2 to assess that and I certainly don't know what that answer would be. Modern conditions in that area aren't the issue, just what were the conditions during WW2 for land movements in that area? And even when you know that, how do you simulate that in this game engine? The designers seem to feel that land movement within Denmark was fine, but land units crossing the Sund between Denmark and Sweden wasn't possible back then. Since the game developers are Swedish and you're a Dane, you guys obviously know more about this then I do, but that is the question that has to be answered.

As said above, when you can move from Lübeck to Copenhagen you should also be able to move from Copenhagen to Malmö. In the days of ww2 the strait was no bigger, and it should be possible to move units over without the use of TP units. Remember that when you attack over straits, you do get a high penalty as with naval landings.

On the other side, I haven't given musch thought as of how this would affect gameplay, maybe the developers have done that...
