Steve,
1520 OE is weaker than a 1520 OE played from 1492 and gets only a few months to use Selim.
Spain is stronger relative to France.
Austria has defensive depth and inhereits Bohemia seven years in.
Portugal has a shot at being what it was historically.
That's why I want to use it... That, and it's more balanced overall.
As for "victory," I don't necessary think there is one, objective standard... Which is why there's a debate at the end of most games as to who played it best. There are two big ways to measure it:
1. Ultimate victor. The player or alliance that's strongest at game's end, overall. By this measure, Sweden would've won CQS I.
2. Finest performance. Total accomplishment, taking odds into consideration. By this measure, it was Eli's Poland without question.
Doesn't matter to me... But a country like Prussia can't compete in Victory Points, most cases, so I'm not sure how much they're worth.
heh... that's a very interesting take on the situation. there was no contest for the VPs as far as i cd see near the end there, basically despite the fact that the two contenders were advocates of the VP system. poland remained difficult to touch due to the "oath" he apparently swore w/ mr. lifford never to attack him, which basically gave the two of them rather more security than wd be usual.Originally posted by satan
In Poland's case last game Elijah did an excellent job of negotiating alliances so that he was never in any danger the entire game, and used France as a bogeyman to help in that regard. That only really worked since VPs were the criterion.
