Part 6: when the decifcation strikes the rotary oscilator

As 1518 drew to a close things are not looking good for us, our army (9/3/3) and navy (0/13/0) were still pitifully small, our economy is pathetic, our population restless and the Turk is preparing for war. I send a commander, who seems rather pleased to get away from the coming war, off to marry a Polish princess, we take comfort in the fact she looks like a dogs bum with a hat on.

On the 3rd of March 1519 Turkey and her Godless allies Algiers, Cyrenacia, Iraq and Wallachia declare war on Venice and drag our whole alliance into the war, I remember our last war with Venice by our side and vow that we will take something from this one and bloody the heathens nose! I take command of the army and march to Syria however my troops are caught by a small Turkish force (3) which we brush aside but we have to start marching again, another Turkish force (2) intercepts us a few weeks later and then a Cyrenacian force (2) is buried in the sand, over the next two months we fight many battles against small armies in Judea which gradually whittle down our forces finally the small attacks stop and we see a 50k Turkish army heading towards us, I order our troops to march north to Lebanon which by the 26th of September is under siege by our army. The Turks arrive in Judea a few days later and settle down for a siege. In November I receive terrible news the blasted dirt peasants of Rhodes have raised the standard of revolt, while I devise an especially cruel punishment for its leaders the siege continues and we start o make some headway, meanwhile the Turks die of starvation in Judea, may they all rot in hell.

At the beginning of 1520 the Turkish troops in Judea realise that all that rat soup can't be healthy and storm the fortress the take it after a hard fought battle with our brave garrison troops who are slaughtered to a man, seeing that little else could be done I renewed the orders Royal marriage to France and brother Thomas brought me reports from our allies. Georgia is being overrun by the Krim, Hungry is besieging Wallachia, Venice is besieging Kosovo and the now much reduced (32) Turkish army is heading north. On the 21st of April we take Lebanon and sack the city and Venice and Hungry capture they respective targets, I bring the Navy to the Lebanese coast and the army sets sail for Rhodes to teach the Rebels a lesson and they are crushed without mercy, the rebels who weren’t killed will soon wish they had of been. our allies report that many battles have been fought in the Balkans but so far have been indecisive, we wish them good luck and I hope that they can keep the Turks busy for a while. In a moment of quiet a titbit of international news reaches me Spain declares war on the Incas, I put the paper to good use, the supply situation being what it is.... In October the cheeky Turks land 17000 troops on Rhodes which are defeated by our 12000, our navy drives off theirs and the survivors of their army are all taken prisoner. I order more troops to be raised. We drive off the Turkish navy for a second time. Our allies report, Georgia has invaded Turkey and is laying siege to Syria, the Turks try to retake Kosovo and Hungry takes Serbia.

In 1521 I decide to try to invade Cyrenacia I load the army on to the fleet but the fleet is driven back into port by the Turks and I abandon the idea. England gives Poland 84 pigs bladders for peace and a 6000 strong Venetian army defeats a 30000 strong Turkish army, God once again shows us whose side he is on. Boyd up by the success of our allies our navy puts to sea again and this time drives the Turks back into port sinking 3 ships for good measure, the Turks client state Wallachia is forced to pay Hungry 250 dramas and the following month the Turk surrenders Kosovo to Hungry, this is good news but it means the Turk will be able to turn its attention to us, I decide that we must invade the middle east and force a peace, however a cheeky 5000 strong Algerian army lands on Rhodes and shown how real Christians fight and set to work alongside the Turkish captives. I embark with the army and we head for Egypt, meanwhile Venice suffers a defeat in Macendonia, in December Georgia our dear little allies take Syria, while their own country is burned by the heathens they still manage to cut the enemies communications! we send them our warmest thanks and prayers.

In January I land in Egypt and brushing aside a Cyrenican force and lay siege to Cairo, my 3000 new recruits defeat an amphibious Turkish army in Rhodes, in April the Turks start to lay siege to Lebanon, this would be a nice time for some help from Persia or Poland... In May I defeat the Turks in two naval battles, our navy is in serious danger of becoming good, Egypt falls on the 27th and I receive the most amazing peace offer, all Turkish peace offers up to now demanded Judea but this one offered me Lebanon and Egypt!! I took it as quickly as possible, it will leave our allies in the pooh but I am confident the Lord will provide for them....

Wonderful AAR! Colourful language and ottomans getting their hinies kicked. What more could one wish for?

Kudos to you, Cockney.

And honestly, even if this AAR WAS a fake (which I don't really think it is), I wouldn't care since it is SO GOOD. :D

Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys :)

Even the mighty Ottomans find it hard to fight a 3 front war every 5 years, and don't worry there are plenty more bloody wars to fight yet ;)

Seriously though if anyone doubts that this is real then I will send them the save file (which will be in 1651) which has not been modified in any way at all, the knights aren't even a major.

Part 7: The Aftermarth

Heads must be rolling in Istanbul now, the Turks have surrered two provinces to us including their most populated province, this must of been before their spies reported to them, our army stands at 9000 troops and 23 siege guns, or navy at 13 galleys and our economy, well the less said the better I think...

I decide to look more closely at our new conquests, Eygpt is a huge province with a population in excess of 150000, if they revolt it may be hard to bring them to heal. The strategic importance of Eygpt can not be overstated, it not only cuts Isolates Turkeys other holdings in Eygpt, but also prevents Nubia and Cyrenacia from reinforcing their presence in Europe. Lebanon is a poor prize by comparsion but thanks to Turkey builing a fortress there it is at least defenseable. Slightly ironicaly the Lebanise are also the first proper Catholics in our kingdom and don't seem inclinded to revolt.

However the Turks take out their anger on poor little Georgia and 3 days after the our treaty with Turkey Georgia is forced to give 250 buckets of coal to Cyrenacia, and Georgian and Crieman naval forces clash off the coast of Lebanon. In september while I wait for our economy to give me some cash Venice reports that they are besieging Albania, in October Georiga suffers another blow as they are forced to cede Azow to the Krim and give up 209 sheep for good measure. The year ends with Moldavia being admited to our allaince. In 1523 Wuttemberg turns protestant and I decree that we will not tollerate this heresy to prevent revolts in Eygpt and Judea, I marry off some commanders to Austria, who would be a welcome addition to our allaince and Savoy, I rebuild the army and navy as best I can with out new tax income. In June Georgia ends it long nightmare and pays 69 in gold to the heathens Turks, may the Lord curse their greedy hides. This quiet years ends with a white between Spain and the Incas and with Russi, Denmark and Pskov decalring war on Kazan.

1524 was not a very eventful year, with eveyone still licking their wounds fom the last war and Turkey and Venice still fighting in the Balkans, on the 17th of January the Indian states of Mysore and Hyderbad decalred war on Portugal and despite the good odds on offer no one is willing to bet on Portugals three trading posts in the region surviving. In march we recive the distressing news that Turkey is besieging Ragusa and 6 six days later Russia annexs Kazan, I study the finacial reports and fell off my chair through the open window and landed in the moat of Rhodes castle, when I am fished out by a band of laughing monks I summom the finance minister and ask him to explain why infaltion is running at 31%, I have no time for his pathetic excuses and send him to marry the uglyest princess I can find, who happens to be from Lorraine. In October Spain declares war on the Aztecs and days later the Turks take Ragusa, may the Lord give them guidence or a 50000 strong army... Russia and its allies celebrate the birth of our Lord by decalring war on the Golden horde.

On new years day in 1525 I am told that Hannover has turned protestant, damn these heretics. Turning to more practical matters I promote a legal consul in Eygpt to reduce the risk of rebellion as I am still not overly confident in the armies ability to supress any attempt to resist our benevolent rule. Things look bad for Venice when they are forced to pay 106 and 102 pieces of Gold to Iraq and the Krim respectivly. 1526 sees Thuriagen turn protestant and in April Venice if forced bring its long war with Turkey to and end and cedes Ragusa to them. In may a dispatch from our man in Russia informs us that they have prised Kujbyschev from the Golden horde and I send off someone to marry a Russian princess, the next few months are quiet but in November one of our tactless Bishops leads mass in the mosque in Acre, the population are outraged and raise the standard of revolt, I dispatch the fleet from Rhodes to collect our troops from Eygpt and subdue the rebels who have done something rather unpleasent with the Bishop and a Crusufix...

1527, the Palinat and Helvetia turn protestant and Portugal having done absolutly nothing for 3 years signs a white peace with Mysore, March the troops are about to board the transports a revolt breaks out in Eygpt and is crushed with suprising ease, the year however takes a turn for the worse...

Part 8: The 4th Turkish war

On the 28th of October The Turkish ambassador with a grin across his godless face that Turkey and her allies Algiers, Cyrenacia, Iraq, The Krim, The Hedjaz and Wallachia are now at war with us and our allies Venice, Hungry, Georgia and Moldavia.

I decide that it might be best to wait in Egypt and see what the heathens would target, my allies showed no such caution as Georgia invaded Turkey with some 50000 troops and Hungry invaded Wallachia who they really should of annexed by now, on the 15th of December as the main Turkish force heads north to harass my allies a small army from Cyrenacia marches into and then out of Egypt losing 2000 men on the way.

1528 began with Hungry gaining 250 from Wallachia , I send a note to the king of Hungry asking why in Gods name they don't annex them, I receive a reply that they are useful for funding the war effort which is all very well but it does mean that we have to deal with their sodding army! I put the fleet out from Rhodes where they rendezvous with a Venetian fleet and over two months inflict three savage defeats on the Turkish navy sinking 7 ships. Our army drives off a small Turkish detachment and I decide to march on the delta, Hungry’s policy of non annexation is not followed by Wallachia as in April they annex Moldavia, surfice to say I was not very pleased with Hungry about this and I send a letter telling them to buck their ideas up, our march to the delta is interrupted by an Iraqi force which is beaten but not by much I order a march to the delta hoping my men will make it before another army tries to intercept them, they are about to arrive when on the 28th of August a detachment from Cyrenacia intercepts them, I lead the cavalry change myself and the heathens are slaughtered to a man, meanwhile a large Turkish of about 30000 men is on the way so I decide to wait for them. The Turks arrive and I decide that disgrestion is the better part of valour and make a strategic withdrawal to the delta, which, praise the Lord cannot be intercepted, on the 27th of November we begin a siege of the delta port, while the Turks now reinforced to some 60000 besiege Cairo.

1529, the sieges are both progressing slowly and a satisfying number of Turks are dying of starvation, but as they are constantly reinforced by allied troops their numbers remain at about 60000, in March Cyrenacia lands 1000 troops on Rhodes, unfortunately for them they run into my reserve army of 5000 men and 10 guns and are killed with no losses on our side, bad news however as the Turks seem to breaking down the walls of Cairo at an alarming rate while we are just, as my field commander put it, pissing in the wind. On the first of June our cultural attaché informs me that we have entered the Baroque period (trade and infra level 4), what this breaks down to is more money which is no bad thing. Meanwhile Hungry finally does something right and besieges Ragusa. On the 10th of June we receive news that Egypt has fallen and that the Turks are heading north, this should give us a little breathing space so I order our siege of the delta to continue and on the 27th of August it falls, I order a march on Alexandria, that should hit the Turks economy right in the cods. The reserve army is ordered to put to sea and sail for Alexandria to reinforce our army and hopefully get the done quickly. On the 30th of November my main army arrives in Alexandria and begins a siege, meanwhile my allies contribute to the war effort by sitting on the backsides!

At the start of 1530 the fleet carrying the reserve army is suprised by the Turks and forced to disembark in Egypt I order them to march north on the 2nd of February we capture the colony of Sinai I mach to Jordan to try to knock the Hedjaz of the war, meanwhile the main continues its siege in Alexandria I defeat the Hedjaz army but do not have enough troops to besiege the city so I order a march to Judea where we defeat the Krim I order a march to Samaria to await reinforcements from Rhodes. While this is happening a hear the excellent news that Alexandria has fallen I march the army to Egypt to retake it. The second army is intercepted by an Iraqi force and in a narrowly contested battle we just hold them off. A 20000 strong Turkish force kills our brave crusaders to a man in Judea and I raise some more in Lebanon, thankfully the Turks head north to aid there comrades in the siege of Serbia. I lay siege to Egypt in August and defeat a cheeky Cyrenacian force tries and fails to dislodge us, the survivors are currently cleaning out the depressingly large palace cesspool back on Rhodes. I try to reinforce the Egyptian siege force but the Turks true to form block my way I head to port and resolve to try again in the new year.

As the sun comes up on dawn of the first day of 1531 I am disturbed from drawing up plans for today’s bombardment and I am informed that Hansa has turned Protestant. In February I land my reinforcements into Sinai and from there they march to Egypt however just 9 days later on the 11th of February Egypt falls to us, 4 days later a sheepish looking Turkish ambassador enters with a peace offer, I look it over it would give us Sinai and the delta but not the holy city, I wish to fight on but my allies are exhausted and our armies are not much better off so after making the Heathen stand up for 12 hours I accept the offer and two days later we sign a white peace with Wallachia, the war winds down quickly as Hungry is forced to surrender Kosovo to the Turk and Venice signs a white peace with Cyrenacia.

Knights v. Ottomans

I had my doubts about the abilities of the Kinghts to pull this off, until my last campaign (as France). I watched the Knights seize Samaria, Judea, Aleppo and Lebanon from the Ottomans by 1560 and hold them until 1599 (and counting).

Of course it helped that the Ottomans and Mamelukes fought virtually nonstop from 1500 to 1560 by which time they were so exhausted that a Nubia & Tunisia dismembered the Mamelukes and a remarkable Venice/Hungary/Poland/Persia coalition is doing the same to the Turks! ;)

Thanks guys its nice to know that I'm not the only one reading this ;)

Kevin, When I play the Knights always do shockingly badly, they ethier get annexed by the Turks or sit on Rhodes doing nothing much, thats one of the reasons I choose them, I wanted to see if it was just the AI being crap or that they didn't have the resources to do anything. I hope to see the Kinghts do that well in one of my games :)

Part 9: Taking Stock

I look at our empire, now expanded to 5 provinces and 1 colony an impressive start against the Turk who in 4 wars has been deprived of the Holyland bar the holy city itself and most of Egypt. However despite the outward appearance of success, the lavish parties thrown by our Bishops in celebration where Kings and Princes and Dukes and Lords from all over Christendom come and rejoice in the humbling of the Turk, the new provinces we have acquired make us appear outwardly successful but all is not well we are short of ships, men and money in fact the only things we not short of are restless peasants, mediocre commanders and inflation.

I decide that rebuilding the army and walls is our first priority, however I will have to wait till new year in order to get started. In the meanwhile I study foreign affairs reports and discover that the Turkish alliance have declared war on Persia, may the war last 50 years and bankrupt both of them! The new year (1532) arrives and I receive news that Sweden has turned Protestant, in the past this would of provoked outrage and a new wave of denunciations from our ever tactful Bishops, but to be honest I am past caring for the affairs of trouble makers in Northern Europe, the Lord will sort them out soon enough... In late January I move my HQ to Lebanon as the Turks and the Persians are fighting over Syria and I want a front row seat, as one of my commanders put it "there’s nothing like the smell of grapeshot in the morning". The Persians win the final battle in Syria and start to besiege the towns, although to my great satisfaction not before killing 26000 Turks and losing 19000 themselves, despite their early success the Persians start to lose the war as the year goes by and by the end of it have lost Azebaijan and Kars to the Turks.

1533 begins and the spending on the army and navy is starting to make it look almost respectable, Persia continues to show its complete inability to fight a war throughout the year and in August give up 208 rugs to the hedjaz. In our last war we lost our allies Moldavia thanks to Hungary’s stupidity, the search is on for a new partner in the good fight against the heathen. Austria looks like the most likely candidate, good relation with us and a very strong economy, but alas her alliance with a number of minor German powers does not run out until August next year. 1534 begins with more news from the North, this time Prussia has turned Protestant, I shrug. Persia proving its complete ineptness cedes Persis and rug 147 bottles of Perfume to Turkey cutting their empire in two, for the next 3 months I wait patiently for Austrians alliance to run out, finally on the 16th of August it runs out and on the 18th they agree to join, having a diplomat camped outside the kings chambers for 3 weeks worked and we now have a very strong alliance to help us against the Turks.

At the dawn of 1535 my Minster for public morals comes in and informs me of a scandal at court involving a Bishop, a whorehouse and a vegetable farm, I tell him I don't want to know the details and have him marry off the offending party to Tuscany. In April the peoples of Europe remember how much they like killing each other, on the 20th the Turk aided by their evil allies Algiers, Iraq, Wallachia, Crimea and Cyrenacia declare war on Poland who bring along Brandenbug, Prussia and France for the ride. On the 24th Helvetica declares war on Lorraine but the Helvetian king has not done his homework and Spain, Genoa, Scotland, Parma and the Teutonic order support Lorraine. The Poles start the war badly and by years end the Turks are besieging Bujak and the Krim are besieging Kremertjug.

1536 begins with two reports, one from foreign affairs and the other from intelligence, the former informs me that Kleaves has turned Protestant, the latter that the Krim have taken the province they were besieging and appear to be marching towards Bessarbia. The Turks take Bujak in May and head north, the begin a siege of Galicia in September, elsewhere in Europe the Helvetian king learns his lesson and pays 250 to Lorraine for peace in December the Turks take Galicia and Bradenbrug forces Wallachia to pay 250 and surrender Moldavia to them and Prussia forces 250 out of the troublesome Turkish allies.

1537 beings and the Turks take Bessarbia after two assaults, in a secret meeting with the high council it is decided that we must take action...
