OOC: The game is played with 1.08, Hard/Aggressive

IC: God moves in mysterious ways, following the sad death of Brother Jerome I was summoned before the various Bishops and Cardinals who make up our government, I was sure that they had found out about the real reason for the expansion of the vineyards or about the jousting betting syndicate, but instead they informed that I was to be made chief clerk of the order, effectively making me responsible for the day to day running of our order. I looked upon this as an opportunity to expand my business empire while keeping everything on the Island ticking over, however the good Lord had other ideas....

I ordered a survey of our strength to be conducted, we have 1 province, Rhodes a poor island with a small population and income, a small army (9/1/0) and a reasonable navy (0/14/0) and an alliance with Genoa, Tuscany and Parma.
I decided that our incoming must be boosted straight away and promoted a Bailiff to make that the peasants make their rightful contribution to the order, our army is weak so 1000 horses and horsemen are raised, things quieten down for the next few months only the news of Spain driving the heathens of Granada into the sea disturbing the peace. During this period of inactivity I studied the maps of the world, to our east the giant nation of Turkey lies and I realise that they will be out major enemy and that the order must be prepared, I look around for allies and find that Hungry, Venice and Georgia are unattached, so on the 5th of April a Royal marriage is arranged with Venice. On the 1st of October I bid farewell to our Italian allies, the council of Bishops is unhappy because it is unchristian to break a vow but I remind the that it is our duty to defend against the heathen is any way we can and they reluctantly agree. The following day a treaty of alliance is signed between Venice and ourselves almost before the ink is dry Hungry also joins and we feel more secure, I have to wait until our diplomats return but in November Georgia joins us and our alliance is complete. On the 13th of November a war breaks out between Hansa and Denmark and just two days later following a sharp rise in the price of bacon Parma declares war on Denmark to force prices down.

At the start of the new year I decide to cement our alliance relations and arrange royal marriages between Georgia Hungry and us relations improve accordingly and the council of Bishops is very pleased with my efforts. On the 23rd of January the Turks declare war on fellow heathens the mameluks, we solemnly pray for their lives, for the loss of them that is... In keeping with the new spirit of peace in the world Russia declared war on Kazan 4 days later and we note that the mameluks seem to winning the war after two months. However the mameluks success if put in jeopardy when Persia stabs them in the back and declares war, we now have metal cannon balls (Land tech 2) and with the tide of the war Turing I decide that we should also attack the mameluks, taking a foothold in the holyland will please the Bishops and won't hurt our finances ether.

On the 11th of November I declare war on the mameluks, I don't call on my allies, as they would be of little use now. On the 8th of December I capture Lebanon, the lazy heathens had not bothered to build a fortress, we will teach them about the Christian work ethic. I march to Judea the next day and on Christ’s birthday we begin a siege of Judea but 3 days later the sneaky mameluks retake Judea, I march north to teach them a lesson and raise 2000 infantry at Rhodes, this may be a long war...

In the new year we somehow lose a battle to the Mameluks in Lebanon, God is testing us and we shall rise to the challenge! I travel with our reinforcements to Judea and we continue the siege. When I arrive I am told that Poland and her allies the pope, Savoy and Helvetia have declared war on Kazan, I send back the messenger with orders to raise 3000 more troops at Rhodes, the next day I take 1000 men and march north to Lebanon now that the Mameluks are busy with the Turks who hold two Aleppo and an adjoining province which now one here can pronounce and the Persians who hold Syria. On the 25th of May I take Lebanon and once again the Christians there are liberated from heathen rule, our troops celebrate by burning and raping everything in sight... We finally develop siege guns, at last a use for those cannon balls! I send a force of 1000 to sail to Sinai and take the Heathens from the rear (much like our troops are doing in Judea....) they land and capture the province with no resistance however just 4 days later a 12000 strong Mameluk force arrives and kills each and every one of our brave soldiers, a mass is held for them in the cathedral.

At the start of 1495, we have been at war for 1 1/2 years and we still have little to show for it, the siege of Judea is painfully slow our siege engines barely scratching the walls, our armies are small and tired, I order 100 horsemen to be raised, we have to end this war soon. Taking a little time out as all our armies are safely prosecuting the siege in Judea, I marry off a retired commander to a French princess and my spies inform me that France is a very rich kingdom, with over 80000 troops in the field, if only we could field a 1/4 of that we could win this war in weeks. Our navy has been neglected in this war so I order a new galley to be built at Rhodes, everything is quiet for a few months, the clam only disturbed by the news of Kazan giving Lipesk and 157 sheep hides to Russia. However on the 17th August we receive some terrible news the Mameluks have surrendered Aleppo and Nuyssayin to Turkey and Syria to Persia, their entire army will now be against us! desperate times call for desperate measures and I take a loan and order 1000 horse to be raised and 20 siege guns built.

In the new year Denmark agreed to drop the price and bacon and signed a white peace with Parma and a piece of good news arrives as we sink a Mameluk fleet trying to stop us getting reinforcements to Judea. On the second of February Persia declares war on Iraq but gets more than it bargained for when Turkey, Crimea, Algiers, the Hedjaz and Cyreniaica join Iraq and declare war on them. I order 2000 infantry and 1000 horse to be raised, as we still can't to take Judea, Persia tries to take the war on to the Hedjaz's lands, meanwhile Turkey besieges Syria. Persian armies are thrashed in Syria and we destroy a small (3) Mameluk army sent to relive Judea. On the 16th of September Hansa is forced to give up Holstein and 189 crates of beer to Denmark, we honestly couldn't care less because this month the walls of Judea start to collapse, the Mameluks finally decide to do something and sent 15000 troops to attack us, we defeat them with ease, our cannons scaring them off with 2000 losses, I order 3000 more infantry to be raised to beef up our force in the middle east and am informed that Persia paid 21 carpets to Crimea for peace. On the Christmas day the walls Judea look ready to fall but 10000 Heathens are marching to stop us.
1497 starts with order to raise a new army (2000) we have to stop the mameluks ending the siege or sneaking into Lebanon. We defeated the Mameluk army in Judea with only a few casualties and a few days later Judea falls but the Mameluks will not give me Lebanon, I am about to order the army to Jerusalem when the Mameluks offer me Judea, I accept!

The war is over and we have a foothold in the Middle East Envoys from every Christian nation come and visit us and congratulate us on retaking a small piece of the Holyland, and thus began our long involvement in the Middle East...

Good stuff mate, and from such humble beginnings;
a small army (9/1/0)
Ten blokes and one horse, eh? That's not small, it's minuscule. ;)

Seriously though - it's looking good so far, but 50d says you can't hold onto the Holy City for more than 5 years...

Part 2:

The war is over but we are in a mess, 200in debt with no money, few defences and a small army to hold back the heathens, I realise that we will never raise the money to pay back our loan so I take 4 more so that we will go bankrupt more quickly, our council of Bishops are usually opposed to ugries but I am able to convince that these funds will be used to fight a holy cause and the relent. With our newly borrowed wealth I upgrade the forts in Judea and Rhodes and start to re-build the army, by the end of the year we have one in Judea (6065/2331/21) and a second in Rhodes (2000/2000/20)

I being 1498 by arranging a Royal marriage with Austria and then one with Savoy, this enables our spies to see what is going on inside the countries, Austria has no standing army but 2 refineries and seems very wealthy, Savoy has a good sized fleet (8/6/3) and reasonable armed forces, I continue our rebuilding process and raise 5,000 men, 2,000 in Rhodes 3,000 in Judea. On the first of April I am called to a meeting with our bankers where our finance minister tells the bejewelled Italians that we are bankrupt and cannot pay them back the 1000 ducats, they look aghast, I have never seen grown men cry like that before and even me saying that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven doesn't console them, the leave the palace uttering the most foul curses imaginable. However those bankers left more behind than soggy tissues and new words for us to ban, they left us with a 25% inflation rate, several banned words are uttered by me as the price of everything starts to skyrocket. The next few months are spent viewing financial reports and exiling successive finance ministers but nothing seems to solve the inflation problem. On the 11th of December Persia was forced to cede Syria and Armenia plus 205 bottles of perfume to Turkey and they still have to fight Iraq and the other allies, I fear that Persia will soon become a 3rd rate power unable to resist the Turks.

1499 was a fairly dull year, nothing at all happened for 5 months until my worst fears were confirmed when Persia surrendered Tabriz, Awaz and Hammed to Iraq, cutting its empire in two and depriving it of its most valuable provinces, I pray the Lord will protect us when the Turkish alliance makes war on us. More shocking news on the 1st of June the peasants of Rhodes revolt and it take two months to subdue them, I was shocked that our capital had revolted and wanted to know why, the answer lay in religion. We are a catholic country with an orthodox province and a Muslim province, hardly an ideal situation, I send memos to all clergy to be as tolerant as possible of all other religions. Just before going to bed on that eventful day I read that the treat of Tordesdlas has been signed, it deals with colonial matters of little interest to us, our concern is with fighting for Christ and against heathen scum! I round off the year with two minor diplomatic triumphs, royal marriages Lorraine and Moldavia.

At the dawn of a new century our great general L'Isle Adam returns from his long pilgrimage to Rome and takes command of the army in Judea, talk about fashionably late! but at least we now have a general who knows a little about sieges, rather than the 'point the guns in the general direction of the wall' tactic used by our other commanders... With this new general I feel that we can take on the Mameluks again, but I cannot declare war because of our peace treaty, instead I send a claim to the throne hoping that they would declare war but no such luck. Nothing of import occurs in until December when the vile Turks seeing the weakness of the Mameluks declares war and bring their whole alliance with them, I have a feeling the next war I fight will be with the Turks...

As 1501 progresses the Mameluks start to disintegrate the remnants of their armies cannot stop the onslaught and the Turks overrun Lebanon and Jerusalem, in the mean time I continue to build up our armies and arrange a Royal marriage with Russia. The Mameluks try to save their hides and pay Iraq 41 and the Hedjaz 8 but the Turks can not be bought off and continue to advance taking Cairo, it is hopeless the Turks capture Alexandria and on the 16th of November annex the former Mameluk lands with Southern Egypt (cataract and Nile) going to Cyrenacia. We now hold the province which divides the two halves of their empire, hardly an enviable position, I raise as many soldiers as I can.

As I suspected the Turks wasted no time in declaring war, I called on my allies who were on only too happy to help, I knew this war would make or break us, may the Lord be with us on our Journey...

Part 3: Our first (and certainly not last) war with Turkey

We had 19000 troops (12/4/3) in Judea so I decided to take the war to the Turks, I sent our army to the rich province of Syria apart from a 1000 strong infantry sent to Lebanon, the lazy heathens will pay the price for its lack of fortifications. A few days later Poland and its allies Savoy the Pope, Helvetia and Navarra declare war on the Turkish alliance, wonderful news, it is good to see his Holiness join our in our fight against the Heathen. My allies Venice score a naval victory in the Adriatic against the Turks meanwhile I build 2000 more troops in Judea, on the 1st of April we capture Lebanon, but the following day our 18000 brave troops are faced with 37000 vile heathens the battle rages with our general causing major losses for the Turks but on the 13th the Turks receive 17000 Iraqi reinforcements and we are forced to retreat to Judea with 4000 dead, although the Turks lost 9000 men they pursue us to Judea where I fear our little corner of the holy land will be overrun, I send the troops back from Lebanon to help their comrades. However in the midst of this disaster we receive some good news from our allies, the Georgians beat a 12000 strong Turkish force in Trabazon and are marching south to our aid with 7000 brave souls, praise the Lord.

On the 6th of June the Lord shows us that he is on our side when our 11000 weary and weak troops defeat 36000 Turks losing only 1000 men, 17000 Turks litter the battlefield and the heathens scurry back to Syria. However I soon realise this to be a hallow victory, while the Turks can lose 25000 men and carry on we can't lose 9000 and expect to fight effectively and I have no more money to raise troops. The poor Georgian marching through Turkey are thwarted by the Turks in Syria and despite inflicting 3000 Casualties they are wiped out. The next day a 18000 Turkish army attacks and I decide not to risk a battle and retreat to Lebanon, I know that we will need reinforcements so I order the fleet our to bring over our troops from Rhodes The arrive and fight a small Turkish fleet they drive it off and steal some maps of the east and a new land called Arabia, however I have no time for such matter and order the troops to board the ships, however just as the troops are nearly all boarded a large (32) Turkish fleet attacks and we are driven back into port, the Turkish fleet then sits there foiling our attempts to get our fleet out of port!, blasted heathens, may God send a storm to kill their unholy fleet!

Meanwhile most of the Turkish army is heading north to our allies Venice and Hungry who are busy taking their time besieging Kosho, however a small section (11) is besieging Judea, the fleet is once again stopped from getting out of port and I curse their admiral. I decide enough is enough I need to thrown the heathens out of Judea, I march the army (10) down toward the Turkish army, however the day before my army arrives Judea falls to the evil Turks, may the flees of a thousand camels infest their armpits as our Muslim subjects would say. Our army Crushes them and has just about enough troops to besiege Judea, fortunately we have 21 siege guns and an able general so this shouldn't take long.

In the year we lose another naval battle our navy is now only 12 galleys strong and we still can't reinforce our troops in Judea. meanwhile the Hungarians defeat a Turkish army in Bulgaria while the Poles and Georgians Carve up the Crimea. I defeat a small Turkish force in Judea and continue the siege, I am only 83 men over 10000 now, better not lose any more! Disaster strikes our allies and 30000 venetian and Hungarian troops are crushed by 94000 Turks in Kosho, the 80000 surviving Turks march toward us. The walls of Judea are finally weakening. My fleet is till stuck in the flaming port my sailors can give a wonderful description of the whorehouses of our capital but they barely know what colour the sea is now!, another small Turkish force is shown the way to paradise by our troops in Judea meanwhile our fleet continues its 24 hour watch on the inns of Rhodes and is stopped from leaving by the Turks, I send a dispatch to Venice asking them where the hell their fleet is but it was probably intercepted by the Turks as their fleet is still nowhere in sight.

We are then forced back into Syria by a large force just as Judea was about to fall, I hope Satan has reserved some unbearable torment for these heathen scum! At last! with the help of Poland and Georgia we finally drive the Turks away from Rhodes, I load our reinforcements on to the ships as quickly as possible and pray that the Turks don't come back in time to stop us as we are down to 6900 troops and 20 guns in Syria. The Turks true to form come back and drive our useless navy back into port, this has gone to far and I have the admiral executed for his gross incompetence, but we defeat a Turkish army in Syria with no losses and reject their demand of Judea. I build more troops in Rhodes but getting any troops out has thus far being impossible... Meanwhile I send the army to Lebanon to await the reinforcements (if they ever arrive) Iraq invades Georgia, the poles besiege Silistra, Venice takes Kosho and besieges Bosnia and our fleet is once again forced back into port, we capture Lebanon again and I decide to hold the army there, out navy (13) backed up by 14 papal ships engages the Turks (37) and we are heavily defeated losing 3 ships, the Lord is testing us again...

The Poles are pushed back soon afterwards and the Turks besiege Kosho, but Hungry does at last manage to recapture Serbia, Wallachia the vile Vassal of the heathens has paid 250 Boards of timber to Hungry, I would have annexed them myself to teach them to ally against God but our allies need the money. The Turks once again send us back to port while the fleet of Venice at long last puts in an appearance and along with a few Georgian ships drives the Turks off the coast of Lebanon , our troops are on the shore ready to kill any survivors from Turkish ships, may God have mercy of their souls. I try to rebuild our navy and order a galley to be built. Meanwhile the Turks besiege Serbia and force my fleet into port for the umpteenth time. On the 16th of November Poland withdraws from the war and takes Bojak in the peace deal, this is bad news 1504 will be very important for us to stop this mucking around and win the war.

We try once again to get our fleet out but to no avail and then the Turks have the cheek to land 1000 troops on Rhodes itself, however because of their effective blockade 12000 troops (2000 horse) and 10 guns greet them and they are wiped almost as soon as they step off the boat. We defeat another small army in Lebanon again for no loss, however a stronger Turkish force is only just beaten off 3 months later and the army is looking in trouble reduced as it is to 6200 men and 18 guns, another small army attacks a month later and the Turks give up and march north where Georgia is making a nuisance of itself in Armenia. Meanwhile our fleet looks in serious danger is getting out into open sea but is pushed back into to port again, a little divine intervention right now would sure help! In may we destroy an Iraqi army in Lebanon and then a Turkish one 3 days later and miracle of miracles we get the fleet out and load our troops on to it while our navy gets reacquainted with water the Venetian defeat another Turkish squadron off Lebanon leaving us free to land our troops, ask and ye shall receive as the good book reminds us. While unloading our troops the Turks again attack us but this time we hold firm and with our allies drive the Turks back into port we land our troops, our troops in Lebanon are overjoyed and we begin a march to Judea.

Meanwhile Venice retakes Bosnia and Hungry tries to recapture Croatia, the Turks are defeated by a Georgian army which in the same month takes Armenia and their remaining forces humble the Crimeans! In October some suprising and wonderful news reaches us, the Turkish alliance declares war on Persia and Nubia! the large 40k army heading for us marches east, I am overjoyed, the Lord has shown us the way to victory. On the 21st of November we being a siege of Judea we have 28 siege guns and we hope to take the province quickly and move South to the Holy city.

1505 begins and the war starts to turn in our favour, on the 10th of January Hungry signs a White peace with Cyrenacia, which unfortunately means their poxy little armies will be directed at us and on the 19th Crimea surrenders Azow and Kouban to Georgia and even have to pay 59 bushels of wheat to the victors, the whole Georgian army now marches on Turkey. As predicted a small cyrenacian army attacked in Judea and was brushed off with ease and our navy with Venetian help defeats another Turkish squadron near Cyprus. Meanwhile the siege of Judea continues and the wall are weakening and my allies report the following on the northern front, Venice besieges Kosho, Turkey besieges Serbia and Hungry finally retakes Croatia. On the 22nd of May we take Judea and build a new army there, I order a march to the South and the Holy city, may the Lord be with us. The next Month we besiege it and the Turks reinstate their blockade of Rhodes

In July the Turks march into Lebanon taking the province, curse their heathen hides, we fight 6 naval battles with the Turks in 2 months winning four of them and although our fleet is down to 8 galleys we have sunk 11 Turkish ships and forced their navies back into Egyptian waters. On the 11th of September we retook the holy city, for the first time in over 200 years Church bells rang in Jerusalem, I order a day of celebration and on the next day I order the army to march on Egypt via Sinai, meanwhile a Turkish fleet demoralised by the news of Jerusalem’s capture is driven off the Lebanon coast, and our new army marches north from Judea to Syria. Meanwhile Venice besieges Albania and Georgian troops win a crushing victory killing 20000 Turks and march south into Turkey.

We are at last winning when Venice signs a white peace with Turkey the day after we began the siege of Cairo! when I return to Rhodes I shall give the Venetian ambassador a very serious talking too. All our gains are and our army limps back to Judea. The war is over but because of separate peace’s Venice, Hungry and I are at war with Crimea, Hungry is at war with Turkey and so is Georgia.

While we did not gain anything from the war we proved to ourselves and the outside world that the Turks were not invincible, Georgia also gained territory and we have learnt much from this, next time we shall take the war to the Turks and watch the Heathen blood flow...

Part 4 the calm before the storm

Following the rather unexpected end to the war we start to preapre for our next encounter, our navy is down to 8 ships and we have only 11000 troops in the field new troops are raised in Judea to start the rebuilding. In ealry 1506 we learn how to use our artiliery to suport our troops, I ask our scientists if this would have been more useful a few months ago, but they just shrug, oh well. In may hungry gave 212 Horses to Iraq for peace but 7 months later was able to prise the province of Serbia from Turkey, I send a congratolatory note to our brave allies.

1507 was spent rebuilding the army and watching poor little Georgia get hammered by turks and the Krim, may the Lord guide through this difficult time. In July Venice sends forces to help the belegued Georgians beating off a crimean force and besieging Kerchmeanwhile the Georgians tried and failed to drive the Turks out of Georgia proper. In 1508 we continue rebuilding and watch helplessly as Georgia is defeated in a huge battle with the Turks in Georgia, curse their heathen hides, Venice beats the crimea again and continues its siege of Kerch, Europe is quiet for once and I use the poptunity to look for a new ally, Austria is along term goal but she is already attached to a couople of minor German states so I shall have to wait for a while.

1509 started with a new breakthough in naval tech, again I wonder why this couldn't have been in war time, when we actually needed it! Our bloveded allies Georgia are still being slapped around by the evil turk, a pox on them! Finally Georgia ends it nightmare and pays Turkey 250, we vow to reclaim it in the next war, the Turk expans its evil empire but this time at the expense of other heathens as they steal Kurdistan from Perisa. In september my spies report that the Turks are fortifying there border provinces, it doesn't take a genius to work out why... In december our allies Georgia commited an act of almost criminal stupidity and surrendered Georgia to Wallachia, may the Lord show them his wisdom...

1510 was a year of great upheaval in Europe first of all France and its allies Savoy, the pope, Helvetia, Poland, Milan and mighty Navarra declared war on England who brough Portugal and Hansa along for the ride. A few months later the huge Turkis alliance decalres war on Poland who bring their whole allaince along too. We wish our christian brothers the best of luck and hope that all sides invloved get a good hiding! in November the Georgian diplomat calims political asylum and informs us that his goverment has been overthrown by rebels, we greet the new Georgian diplomat and he informs us that relation will continue as before, this peases us greatly.

1511 started quietly the wars in Europe seemed to be costing all sides a lot of men and money and I for one am pleased about that, in My we at long last sign a white peace with Wallachia, ending this war at last. Crimea paid Poland 149 sacks of grain to end their war and I decide that now is the time to stikre at the Turks, I plan it for the new year, we shall reclaim the holy land for Europe and The Lord!

I build more troops I will decalre war in Febuaury and teach these heathens a lesson with Christian steel...

Part 5: A nice little war

On the 18th of February 1512 I summon the Turkish ambassador and tell him that we are now at war, he just smiles and walks out, this makes me feel uneasy maybe they have something up their sleeve... All the same I order the army to march to Syria, while I wait for them to arrive I hear news that Spain has declared war on some heathen nation called the Incas, they reside in a land which on our maps is inhabited by dragons, we wish the Spanish luck, on the 9th of April our siege force arrives in Syria and starts to tear at the walls meanwhile our allies report that Georgia is besieging Georgia, Hungry is besieging Wallachia and the Turks are besieging Kosovo, may a harsh winter strike that province! While travelling to pick up reinforcements from Rhodes our fleet is engaged by a Turkish squadron and amazingly wins the battle even sinking one of their ships for good measure, however some bad news reaches us a few days later when the Turk capture Kosho and marches to Serbia.

Some especially uninteresting international news is brought to me, England gives 34 barrels of warm beer to Navaho for peace. Our brave allies Georgia retake their namesake province in September, on the 28th of October I finally take Syria having beaten off a small force a few days earlier, I notice a 50k Turkish army moving toward me and I decide to march to Lebanon and test the new fortress there. In November Poland invades Greece and defeat a Turkish army (12) in Macedonia, we wish our brother luck and pray that the Lord sends a very harsh winter we start to besiege Lebanon and the blasted peasants on Rhodes rise up in revolt.

1513 starts on the note that 1512 ended on and a Huge (now 41k) Turkish army attacks us in Lebanon we kill 12000 but are forced to retreat and worst of all our brave general L'Isle Adam is killed while fighting a regard action to help the main army escape, we escape with only 7000 troops and limp back to Syria, Hungarians extract 250 pieces of silver from Wallachia and the Poles besiege silistra. We win a battle against the Turks in Aleppo and I sign a white peace with the Turks, we will get them next time but our army is worn down and our economy is in a shambles, and this will allow our allies Georgia to take back their province from Wallachia who foolishly signed a white peace with Hungry. Sure enough Wallachia has to pay 123 to the Poles and give cede Georgia to Georgia, I decided to send the army to crush the revolt in Rhodes but just as I got there Wallachian troop (we were still at war due to separate peace’s) besieged Judea, grrr, I crushed the Rebels in November and put the army straight back on the boat to Judea, I also have the Wallachian diplomat expelled, off the nearest cliff....

1514 was a year of winding down on the in February our army destroyed the starving Wallachian troops and I started on a program of rebuilding, we have to have a better army so that we can fight the Turks next time and win. The Turks, still at war with Hungry besiege Kosho and a few moths later the province falls. The Anglo-French conflict starts to wind down as Hans paid France 250 tonnes of sausage meat for peace. 1515 saw the wars come closer to an end, Hungry signed a white peace with Cyrenacia but the Turks marched up and started to besiege Serbia. Hans was then forced to cede western Pommerenia to Poland and Spain signed a white peace with the Aztecs. In October Serbia feel and Hungry surrendered Kosho to the Turk and Venice signed a white peace with Wallachia.

1516 was a nice quiet year for and started out with welcome improvements in our infrastructure and trade levels, my foreign minister who has been very busy of late informs me of another war, as Russia, Pskov and Denmark declare on Kazan, Our dear allies Georgia seem to having problems with their Muslim provinces and revolts are breaking out everywhere, we can do nothing except wish them luck and praying that the Krim don't take advantage. On the first of August we receive news that some troublesome German priest has been preaching a heresy which has become recognised as Protestantism! we have enough trouble with Heathens without heretics thank you very much, we pray that the Lord will help these misguided soul, or kill them... England and France end their long war with England giving up Quebec to France and a few days later the Krim pays 221 to Venice of which I take half, excellent news, I promote a legal consul in Rhodes. Things have been quiet on the diplomatic front recently and as the war is over we have plenty of 2nd rate commanders doing nothing so I marry one off to a Milanese princess giving us at least a particle view of the situation in Italy and in December France agrees to exchange their maps of the west with our maps of the east, which the Turks kindly gave to us...

In early 1517 we develop the Arqubuis I go to watch a display of our men using this new piece of equipment and after watching them makes me want to crack open the case of potato vodka sent to me by the Polish king, we finally sign a white peace with Wallachia in May and I order more funds to be diverted to the army. Following the tragic death of one of our former commanders I renew our Royal ties with Venice, to round the year the Turks and the Poles finally sign a white peace. 1518 start with the Turks building forts in Lebanon and Syria, I have a bad feeling about this and order more troops to be built, in March we renew our ties with Poland and Georgia and just two days later I am told that Kazan has surrendered Ryzan and 250 bails of hay to Russia, how interesting...
