I'm can't tell in words how I'm angry for bug's who is absolutely visible in mid-late game and this not fixing, don't have time for fix critical bug's, but have time for other dlc's....

Ok here is situation where I lost war becouse of stupid AI.
You can see in video:
I played as Prussia, allied with Spain. Spain call me to defensive war against France.
In beggin of war I got few battles vs France, latter I forced march to spain with my ~100k army to regroup with Spain army.
I stand on Roussillon and wait for attack from France more than ~160k troops, hopping 77k Spains troops soon join to IMPORTANT battle.
So battle beggins and £*$!"(&% Spain ruller won't even try to join battle just siting and laughting from me how my army dying!!!!! (morale and other factors for Spain is everything ok, in start of war they also fighted in other battles with other army).
Also as we see they recruited mercenaries all over whole kingdom, but they also don't care about moving!!

And yes, latter when I retreat to Prussia lands, Spain army going to fight, but it was too late, becouse we able to defeat France is only togeather, but.... And then I lost my 1/3 empire of releasing a lot of nations becouse France peace offer.....

These things like this happened to my many times, but now I can't no more.

Long time I respect you Paradox, but for all years as I saw so far you not fixing bugs who posted by "not popular forum members (little post's, ect..)" I do not know any other reason then. Now if you still be passive of this, I won't buy any stuff from you anymore. I hope you understand what I want to say and have a good day.

Just to make sure; you didn't tag switch to Spain at any time, right?

Even if he did, I've too, noticed the AI doing stuff like this, and letting it's entire stack siege while not helping out in battles.

That said, it went both ways too. Both my enemies, and allies, have had a similar behavior sometimes.

I think it happens when the AI thinks you are going to win at the start of the battle, so he doesn't move (what is kind of ok..)... But then the reinforcements come, you start to lose, but I guess that it doesn't check anymore... Stupid..

At least, that is my guess, because every time it happened to me, it was something like that.. Whan you are weaker from the start, they come to help...

I'm not switching tags, as I said, everthing was OK even on beggining of war. I experienced a lot of similar examples in my gaming in EU4

Um I think you are wrong, AI always going to help to any battles, especially in like these in my situation, but problem is something happening on mid-late game and AI stars becomig ultra passive in controling armies. On early game before 1580~ they never have "free" armies and every reigment do something.

I have noticed this. Especially the AI building lots of individual units and not merging them, just loads of little 1 stacks sitting doing nothing at all. I actually made a video to post in bugs forum but didnt upload it.

Deffo a bug, mine was in ironman. A fresh restart of EU seemed to fix it.

Ok, it might be just a coincedence... But from my experience it happent at that kind of situations.. And your situation would fit in that theory...

I had a war as Byzantium against the Mamluks and Aq Qoyunlu (and Crimea and Timurids) Where I would have probably done better without certain vassals of mine. Crimea and Timurids had no way of getting MA to my lands and yet Serbia decides that sieging Crimeas's provinces would be a good idea. Apparently Serbia's whole stack got wiped in a single battle that caused -6,93 warscore against me. Ok, the Mamluks' navy was blockading Constantinople so I guess Serbia thought that doing something would be better than doing nothing even though in this case doing nothing would have been the best thing to do. Then, later in the war when I had won a battle against the Mamluks' main stack Bulgaria started sieging one of the border provinces. I tried to get them to attach to my army but they left a stack of four regiments to siege. Then the enemy main stack returned and wiped the sieging stack. The AI really doesn't know when to siege and when not to siege, so it should (especially vassals) simply always attach to the player's armies if the attach to unit box is ticked.

In your situation about vassal leaving your regiments and won't attach I think is becouse they tried to avoid atrition and "going to create other army/division" to hopping someone joins and attach to their regiments, and when main enemy is retreating after defeat they stars to rush/attack when no enemy is on the way when (hoping) you or some of allies cover them and do samething , of course I'm not sure, but is a little from logic side from my opinion

I've seen this happen once in my games as well. Once I noticed it I saved and reloaded and then everything was back to normal. The AI moved once more and their troops began spreading out. Guess the reload process will make the AI reevaluate their actions or maybe end some kind of loop they are trapped in the code which otherwise couldn't end?

It's a weird issue and I've never been able to reproduce it unfortunately.

Hey, I found this thread via google, as I have a very similar problem like the one shown in the video.

Spain had stacks of one or two units all over their country* but didn't merge them, despite being at war with france.
After they lost that war (badly) they rebuild their army and have one, perhaps two stacks with ~10 units but also 1 unit sitting idle at nearly all coastal provinces*.

Maybe these to problems are related to another?

Restarting doesn't seem to help.
I would report this as a bug, but I don't know how to provide a savegame, as I am playing ironman.

*during their war with france I was in another war together with them (we are both allied with Russia) so I could see their whole country, now I only see what my ships can see

It's happened to me, too, but I don't think it's a bug, I think it's smart-ish AI.

When that battle gets to the point when your defeat is certain, why would they throw their own troops on the bonfire? And by the by, it's clear you're going to lose even before that second stack hits you. I notice they join my battles when it will make a difference, but not if it's a lost cause.

Though, in the game, just as in real life, it's infuriating.

EDIT: I see Wiz's post up there, which throws my theory into the garbage bin.

Wait how old is this video? those discipline values seems way higher than is possible since they lowered the bonuses?

Also how did you manage to get coast while fighting in that province? The chance of mountains is huge

That would be because the OP of this thread is four months old, and the world is full of webforum administrators who do not configure their forums to autolock any thread which has been silent for more than a month.
