Until now I thought it was just prestige, but I believe there is something related with legitimacy also...

I was married with Portugal with no heir.

England: 7 prestige and I do not his legitimacy, but they are in a regency.
Austria: 100 prestige and around 60 legitimacy.

The portuguese king died and the dinasty passed to be Lancaster and not Hapsburg.

Right now I have another case:

Austria: +76 prestige and 74 legitimac
Lithuania: Prestige +26

We are both married with Poland and if right now the king of Poland would die, Lithuania would get a PU

What is the criteria?

For the second one, it's probably the fact that Lithuania claimed their throne. You can look for it in the diplomacy screen.

The first one I'm not so sure of, length of RM perhaps?

I'd like to know more about dynasty mechanics. The Lancaster clan had quite happily sprawled out over Europe, when suddenly Portugal had a pretender revolt which put an Almeida on the throne. I RMed Portugal. My monarch, Edward, dies and leaves Mary I Lancaster. Then, for no goddam reason, when she dies I have an Almeida on my throne!
