Creating trade centers, would it be balanced ?

The only way that you can create a trade center is through mission trees. So, how about we add a system where you spend an amount of ducats to create a trade center ? The requirements would be stuff like high dev and you can only build one in a trade node.

This would make trade nodes such as the North Sea (that has only 2 trade centers) better. So, would it be balanced ?

It was in EU3. The problem was that it devolved into a... complete mess, especially with the nodes sytem. And it would be very energy consuming to create and to make it work. I'm not talking jsut about the devs energy, but also on how the game would react to such a graft.

This would be relatively simple to mod in as a decision, just having to decide on the conditions. That is to say, you can test out your idea and see how balanced it is.

Wait, did you mean creating trade centers as in the buildings which cost between 200 and 1000 ducats to upgrade? I thought it was about creating whole new nodes from scratch. If it's just about the building / not a building with a modifier, I guess you could create it with a province full of dip development which also happens to be at a good location. It could indeed be a simple decision since it's only a modifier on a province.

Quite like the idea. Wouldn’t want it to be money based. Spend money to make more money is often not great. In my ideal world you would somehow usurp a nearby centre of trade by the new centre being better developed or having higher trade power. Or fighting a trade war to remove a competitor...

The trade war idea sound cool indeed.

Also, the trade war CB is more useful then you might think. Declare it against a rich distant nation, blockade ports for easy warscore and peace out for gold. This way you don't lose manpower and can put your navy to work! It is also useful for generating a truce with an otherwise troublesome coalition member.

The north Sea has 5 centres of trade; two in Scotland, two in Norway, and one in Cork (Ireland). Are you playing without some expansions?

I guess he meant White Sea that one has only 2 CoTs IIRC.

As for limitation I think it would be cool that if you made one in your lands it would give major trade powers in that Trade node (e.g. top 5 by trade power) a Casus Belli to take it over. Kinda like how heir introduction gives RM partners Union CB.
