Looking to start a game as either Brabrant or Geldre.
If you take the required provinces is there an event that will create the
Netherlands/Holland?

Looking at a Grand Campaign.

Have done a French,English,Danish, and Austrian game, now want to try
a small single province kingdom, but with lots of opportunty to explore.

BTW, does the Netherlands get explorers fairly early?

Thanks

Do Brabant in AGC-EEP. That way you get French culture as well ;) Although you gotta fight off Burgundy in 1430's.

When I want to play the Netherlands I start as Burgundy and either release them as a vassal once I can (and then reload as the Netherlands), or make a custom event that moves my capital to the north, changes my country tag, sheds french culture, and cedes the southern provinces to France.

Looking at a Grand Campaign...
With Vanilla you can start as Geldre, play untill around 1560, then release Netherlands, save, then reload as Netherlands, Geldre then will likely join you ( as would Holland/Friesland/Zeeland; I don't think Brabrant joins the Netherlands in vanilla ).

The Netherlands gets a constant stream of explorers shortly after forming.

Thing is though that you'll probably acquire a whole slew of Catholic provinces this way. Which makes going Reformed a pain in the posterior.

Most of the Huguenots provinces goes reformed. Haven't played either in a long time. But I'm certain that several provinces turn reformed.

The provinces that join the Netherlands when it is released are the four northern ones (Freisland, Gelre, Holland and Zealand). They will only join if they are owned by Spain, England, France, Burgundy, or Austria. I wrote a little mod (in my sig) that ensures that they will always get those provinces unless they are owned by one of the 'Dutch' minors (Brabant, Luxembourg, Gelre, Freisland, Flanders).

Indeed, most of them being in the south. And the catholic provinces are same-culture if you play Brabant, so they'll easily be converted. The downside is the cost and trouble of conversion, but the upside is an enormous manpower and many good provinces.
