So I've seen this pop up in several Lets Play videos and I recognize it's an important facet of the game, but I feel like I'm missing a couple things. First of all, how do you create them? I've messed around with the title system for the past couple days but haven't had any luck so far. Secondly - what's the importance of keeping the de jure duchy borders? I keep hearing this brought up too, which made me wonder if it's possible to add or remove counties to the duchy itself. And last of all I always see people on the forum talk about giving duchies over to their heirs. Is this something you should always do? It was my understanding from most the videos I watched that you should use them as an incentive to keep your important vassals loyal, but maybe I'm oversimplifying it.

First of all, how do you create them?
You must have minimum 50% of the de jure land the duchy and around 200 gold. The icon should appear on the front of the screen when you have such an opportunity.
Secondly - what's the importance of keeping the de jure duchy borders?
If you state lost 50% de jure lands and someone other get 50%, he can usurp the title and you/your vassal lost him. If some duchy has only 2 cores and each has a different ruler, expect a ping pong effect.
It was my understanding from most the videos I watched that you should use them as an incentive to keep your important vassals loyal.
Yes, if you king have to much duchies, vassals going to dislike you. Also, much easier to manage vassals when has only a few.

This is a stupid question, and I hope I'm not usurping this thread, but is there any way to force your vassal to step down, and then take his holdings as part of your demesne? If so, how?

Anyone know what the cutoff limit is for getting the "Too Many Held Duchies" trait? Holding 3 as King of Ireland and some vassals have it, others don't.

I was focusing on having raised a stellar future wife princess 4-star 21 Dip plus a bunch of virtues, useful vice, and no bad stats and deciding what to do with all the marriage proposals she was suddenly getting as she turned 16. Thinking about strategy, I forgot where I left off with the rest of the game, including that I wasn't King of Ireland yet, so I gave a duchy to my son and of course he went independent so then I can't form the Kingdom, though he is able to once he inherits. At least he liked me more than ever in my old age. I was tempted to go back to the autosave, but historically control could slip away so on it rolled.

yeah if you're king, give them that 'honorary title' that means butt of the joke in practice (haha good menu option for it BTW) --> name of this ancient oscar like prestigious award is 'court jester' or something like that

then raise his army and do not disband it, keep waiting and see how thin their patience goes.

would be good to send your high level spymaster to uncover plots in this poor bastard's land as he might get plotting against you, good to catch, imprison and revoke 1 title for free.

another method would be assassinating him and his only heir if there is only two of them and you've got a good spymaster with high intrigue level yourself.
