Playing DD1.3 vanilla. As France, I annexed Germany in 1938. I can't release any form of Germany (or part therof) other than Austria. From my searches, it looks like this is just some quirky aspect of the game.

How hard would it be to carve out a German puppet via mod? How is it done?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You have to be at least a paternal autocrat to release Germany. It's coded in the revolt file or you could change the government type there so it's releaseable in any government form.

Yeah - I saw something about that. I don't get it - what is the justification? That's unique for Germany, no?

So if you put '' intrinsic_gov_type = market_liberal'' at the end, you would be able to make Germany a puppet state.

GER = {
date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1936 }
expirydate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1954 }
minimum = {
66 67 74 75 76 80 81 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 89 90 296 297 298 299 300 301 302 309 310 311 312 313 314 315 374 375 376
}
extra = { 473 482 308 302 304 510
# Elsass-Lothringen
72 73 316
# Luxemburg
71 }
capital = 300
revolt = no
regular_id = GER
intrinsic_gov_type = market_liberal

What does ''revolt = no'' mean?

It means that the nation can`t be formed through revolt.

So, curious about this intrinsic government issue, I searched the revolt file. Several countries have that line, but Germany doesn't. Shouldn't that mean that any ideology can release it, as for most countries?

If the OTHER form of Germany has "regular_id = GER" in revolt.txt and "intrinsic_gov_type = whatever" then you MUST release that form of Germany if you have that kind of government, unless you edit revolt.txt. You can only release Germany if the other state already exists. I believe there is something coded in the game engine to prevent release of Germany (except DDR) unless Poland exists first and has the provinces it's supposed to have.

I'm not sure what revolt = no does but I think it just prevents the civil war command from working.
