I am not liking the new sector. There's just no reason for sectors to be tied down together. If there were things like cores or de jure mechanic like in CK2, I would be okay with it. But there's no significance of WHY the sectors have to be bundled up together.

I decided to release a planet I recently conquered as a vassal because it was weighing heavy on my empire. It ends up releasing a whole sector which is like a chunk that I do not want to lose. Parts of which I had in my empire for a lot longer than the recently conquered. I literally consider some of these systems as MY core. Are there any workarounds at the moment or am I stuck with this?

I do hope that they change up how sectors are measured at some point, or perhaps make them based upon the shape of the galaxy, with 'clusters' forming sectors, that would be ideal. Right now there's a ton of border gore with my sectors, and they just don't look very nice. Some are only a single system in size with only one planet, others are massive multi planet areas. There's no middle ground.

Right now I'm playing a Feudal Empire game, so I've gotten some practice with colonising with an eye to releasing the sector as a vassal. A sector will be created whenever you colonise a planet that is more than two jumps from an already colonised planet. It will include all systems within two jumps of itself, unless that is inside an already created sector. I don't know what happens when you claim a system that is two jumps from two already existing sectors, that seem like a corner case.

It should go to the oldest of the sectors that could claim it.
