I believe that creating a system of devotion to some saints would greatly increase the experience with the "traditional" christian countries. There are inumerous examples of devotion to some saints such as St. Anthony, St. Tiago de Compostela, St. Augustin, St Moses the Black, St Anton etc.

Some saints could be selected to be part of the game (those canonized before 1444) and give bonuses to those countries that are devoted to them. The mechanics could be similar as that of the "Church power" of the Protestants, or the fevor of the Reformed, or the classic expenditure of papal influence.
