Create Paradox Interactive forum account

I received an email from Paradox Interactive - says I have an inactive Paradox Interactive forum account, need to merge my forum account with a Paradox Interactive Account.
I went to create a Paradox account. After filling up the required details, I keep getting a error message- this

I received an email from Paradox Interactive - says I have an inactive Paradox Interactive forum account, need to merge my forum account with a Paradox Interactive Account. Else, if I did not create it, my forum account would disappear after 12 Dec, and my account could be used by someone else.
So, I went to create a Paradox account. After filling up the required details, I keep getting a error message- this is taking way too long, something must be broken. and to try again later.
I've tried creating quite a few times and got the same message and the login system thinks i'm a robot (had to pass some picture recognition puzzle).
How do I get a Paradox Interactive forum account? This is taking an hour of my time.

You have a forum account , that what this is. All is in order or you couldn't post here and wouldn't have those icons under your name here.

My problem is (because as stated in the email from Paradox Interactive) my forum account will be gone after December 12 and my user name in forum could be used by someone else if I do not have a Paradox Interactive account which is separate from my Paradox forum account.

Maybe the email that I received is not really from Paradox Interactive.

The email is from us .
My guess is that you have other forum accounts (that you may not remember) and they have not been merged yet. It's also possible that the emails on those accounts are set to forward emails to your current email, hence it looks as it we sent it there when we actually didn't.

If you have merged your account you have nothing to worry about, we will not remove any accounts that are merged, even if you got the email.

So you are removing unmerged accounts? Are you then also removing the posts they made? Because that can trash old threads.

No, accounts with at least one post will remain but their user names will become placeholders, the only accounts that will be deleted are the ones with 0 posts.

Good. Had me worried for a bit there. Since deleting posts would wreck support, mod and general forums for many of the older games.
And would also wreck many of the high quality threads in the history forum. (Not to mention that some of the really ancient threads in OT actually are historical by now. For instance the 9/11 thread which was opened a few minutes after the South Tower was hit and frankly is quite chilling to read.)

What you mean by placeholders is that that the posts will keep having the username set as the poster, but things like post count, join date, icons, etc. disappears? And their profile page disappears?

It will not affect the old posts. For example:

User name is Bob but hasn't merged his account. Come December 12th Bob still hasn't merged his account. This means that all posts he has made will now show as having been posted by <placeholder name>. If someone creates a new account and selects the name Bob, that will not update the old posts to Bob since that will not be the same account ID that made the post (as they are tied to account IDs, not account names).

There is a reason for all this and it will be made clear in the near future.

Ah I see. Much much better than the old posts getting deleted. Although I'd have preferred if you didn't scrap the usernames, since then it might be hard to figure out who people quoted or referred to, since those will use the username, but there'll be nobody with that name in thread.

By the way I know some people who barely uses the fora anymore and hence I'm not sure they're merged. To avoid that mess with quotes/referrings to people I'd ask them to merge if they aren't; plus there is a chance they come back in the future and then it'd be easier if they don't have to make new accounts or be stuck with placeholder names. Are you prompted to merge immediately when logging in with a non merged account or do you need to do something special?

You are prompted immediately. If someone clicks the Sign Up button the forum they will be taken through the process of creating a Paradox Account if they don't already have one and also asked if they have an old forum account or not.

If somebody has been logged in after the migration to the new forum does that mean that account is merged and won't get its name cleared? Or does that account need to have posted?
Also when having merged does people then need to activate their accounts through a mail link again?

Hello, I'll hijack your thread since I had a similar issue I got that same email today saying that I hadn't done the merging procedure yet, but when logging into the forums everything seemed to be fine. I guess I got a false alarm, but can you confirm if everything's ok with my account, just to be sure? Thanks

If they have a forum name here already they won't be prompted to merge, no.

No. If their Paradox account was not confirmed before the merge, that will still be the case after the merge, but the merging process won't un-confirm it, no.

No need to worry, you are already merged . If you got the mail chances are that you had more than one account on the old forum (as you could use the same email for more than one account there) and that's why you were contacted.

Basically: If your account is merged nothing will happen .

How can I see if I have another account? As far as I know I only ever had one... And I seem to be merged.
