My first game was a wild blast.
1. I started as Venezuela in 1936 and immediately started drifting toward the axis. I spent the first 3 years of the game researching industrial & infantry techs. In retrospect I should have spent more time on my navy, but the infantry techs did pay off.
2. Before Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939, I had enough drift to join the Axis. However, I was still a democracy so I couldn't declare war. Germany invaded Poland enabling me to attack UK holdings in the area. I didn't realize that they had troops in Guyana so had to scramble to stop a small garrison from taking territory. Eventually I encircled and destroyed them.
3. Germany blitz over the Maginot line instead of going through the Netherlands. Denmark joined the Axis and entered the war. France surrendered quickly and Germany landed troops on the souther tip of the UK. Although this expedition would be destroyed, it caused significant damage and drove British national unity to the brink of surrender -- however they never did.
4. As Venezuela I took the Carribean islands. This caused America to enter the war in 1941 and land in France. Germany sent the blitz to Scandinavia where the entire front ran out of fuel after their supply lines were cut. The Netherlands, Belgium, and eastern Europe remained free.
5. I edited my save to make me National Socialist so I could declare war on the Netherlands & Belgium since they were un-aligned and Germany needed the space.
6. Japan & Central America joined the Allies.
7. Mexico joined the Allies but declared war on the UK. This created a strange split war with half the Allies fighting the other half. No, I didn't hack anything. Something strange happened here.
8. I conquered Central America.
9. Russia remained neutral. The war is currently Germany, Italy, and Venezuela vs everyone except Russia. Germany has no troops on the border with Russia. Most of the Blitz is stuck in Scandinavia. Italy is winning in Africa. Germany is losing against America, but rapidly shifting resources west. Under my command Venezuela is beginning to invade Mexico.
