Crazy non-historical stuff happening with historical focus turned on

I'm playing on normal difficulty with the historic focus turned on. I have mods, but all of them are turned off. I also follow the focus trees down the historical branch.

Twice when I was playing the UK Germany invaded Poland in 1939, and it didn't trigger WW2.

I was also playing as the USSR, and for some reason 70% of my civilian factories were being used for consumer goods, even though I was on wartime economy. Out of nowhere the "Russian Federation" popped up and there was a civil war. The "Russian Federation" was just the city of Stalingrad and the immediate surrounding area, the size of maybe Belgium.

I'm trying to play historical, and I know that even with historical there is some amount of randomness, but HOI4 just seems to be acting funny lately.

Historical focuses affects the ai, not the player. Sounds like you may not be playing quite as historical as you think.

As Britain, did you actually guarantee Poland after Czechoslovakia got annexed for instance? You need to do that or invite Poland to the Allies after it starts (otherwise it’s just a separate war). Sounds like you were basically doing hyper appeasement Britain and so didn’t stand up to the Germans over Poland.

As for Russia, I’m not fully sure what you did there, but you were either missing key focuses or overly delaying them if you got a civil war on historical path. As for consumer goods, you need to be a bit careful as Soviets since some of their focuses can really hurt you on that front. Still, 70% at war eco does seem a bit high.

The UK needs to guarantee Poland, otherwise WW2 doesn't work. Would be a good thing if the UK got an event that lets you guarantee Poland, or at least a notification so that new players don't derail history when playing as the UK and not guaranteeing Poland.

Chances are the new Soviet tree tripped you up. In older focus tree you had to specifically trigger a civil war, in the new focus trees civil wars can trigger on their own and you need to prevent them instead. I haven't played as the Soviet Union myself since NSB released, but I imagine a tree as complex as theirs has plenty of opportunities to screw with your run.

some of the world tension triggers can be a bit wobbly, I think, in the newest versions of HOI4. If Germany or the Soviet Union hasn't sent enough volunteers to the Spanish Civil War, then world tension might not pass a trigger level, that would otherwise result in France inviting Poland to the Allies.

If you had 70% CIC you probably had strikes, which lead to an uprising.

As the UK it's pretty simple, guarantee Poland. as someone else mentioned, you are also an actor in WW2, both pretty major ones

Also France has usually guaranteed Poland as well and will invite UK into the war if you wait a few days.

Have You deal with Stalin's paranoia? If not, I think the civil war is a option as well.

I am still remember there was a Free France in one of my historical games became communist for no reason after the german capitulated the France. The US in response decided to declare war on communist France and the Allies that made the "historical war" somewhat more interesting.

1) WWII Will not automatically trigger if you (as the UK) don't guarantee Poland. (Which means you forgot to play historically.)

2) Sounds like you ignored the Paranoia system. (Which means you forgot to play historically.)

Even if you forget to guarantee Poland (the AI does it after The Fate of Czechoslovakia), you can use the invasion as a reminder to instead guarantee one (or more) of the BeNeLux countries.

I've played UK before (before NSB) and the German invasion of Poland triggered WWII. I guess maybe I just need to pay more attention to the on-screen prompts, and make sure I am selecting the right options.

Probably on the occasion it worked as you expect, France guaranteed Poland and invited you into the war.

No, France asked to join the Allies and I accepted.

I can't remember which DLC changed it so that the UK had to Guarantee Poland for WWII to happen (probably DoD), but it used to be that you didn't need to do that. Now you do.

France will sometimes guarantee Poland (and thereby kick off Weltkrieg Zwei), but it's not reliable to count on that happening.
