What is up with these crazy missions?
The keep a provence ones and the discover ones are usually fine.
But the missions to build shipyards in a provence, where I can't due to low base tax rate is useless!
So is telling me to capture an allies provence.
These missions need to be improved!

uh, not quite. The correct word is "removed" not "improved". :D

The nearly unanimous opinion of this board is that missions are not a good thing in any way. Just turn them off and ignore them. The computer doesn't use them anyway.

The computer doesn't use them????
The AI in my game sure does!
The Timurid Empire has like 900 VP's from missions so far.

Mission VPs also come from events. You know all those events like "sale of offices" where the choices are get 100d and lose a point of tax OR lose 5 vps? Those VPs are recorded in missions. The Timurids have a really nasty revolt (49yrs at +8%, lose 20k troops, etc, etc) that gives them 600 VPs as part of it. The Golden Horde as a milder version that gives 300. Some other countries get event based VPs for similar hard choices.

But they are definitely not using the mission selection stuff.

Thanks for the info, I did know that some events took away VP's I did not know you could get points from them. I sure was wondering how they managed so many points so early in the game. I guess they should seperate the VP's from events and those from missions, on the summary screen.
Let me guess you gain VP's for taking the historical Choice and lose them for taking option B.

I gave up on the missions when playing England. Got 50vp every five years for keeping the Austrians(!!) out of the British Isles. This was pretty easy to do since I had annexed Scotland and Eire by then.

Yes, when you get "Disintegration of the Timurid Empire" you get 600vp, and all kinds of nasties, when you pick option A. Option B gets no VPs, but revolt risk is only for a year and you only lose 6 stability as opposed to the 8 in option A. Problem is that you also lose 2100gold when picking option B - something the Timurids usually don't have to lose.

I sometimes have the "Royal Marriage with Papal States" mission to accomplish.
As for you, I hate when missions are not appropriate.
For example, when you play as France, and you get the mission "No Burma (not sure if it's burma) in Indochina" around 1460, there's a problem.

At least it's better than in EU 1, where your monarch would randomly give you missions whether you wanted them or not.

"Remember, our beloved king wants you to take Such and Such province"...from an ally, or whatever.

I don't generally play with VP's at all, so missions don't bother me. No need for Paradox to waste time fixing something like that...just don't use 'em.

Mostly I play without missions, a lot more fun, but if I play with them I always select the keep mission, it's the easiest.

yeah I know, missions can be pretty stupid, another mission, in napoleonic scenario it said "Our beloved monarch has a mission he wishes to see fulfilled, no UK in British Iles..." (I was Netherlands btw.) Pretty impossible, no???

There's a reason that almost no one plays with missions. It's outright cheating if you take them with "dynamic missions" set to off, since the computer doesn't have an equivalent VP advantage.

Some folks do believe in playing with dynamic missions on, in an attempt to simulate the fickle whims of the monarch in question. Supposedly the computer's not bad at racking up VP's unders those circumstances, but I have yet to try it myself.

Anyway, you're not going to see any effort on anyones part to improve the mission system, and if you're playing with dynamic ones off and just picking and choosing out of the list, you're going to win the VP battle by 1000's of spare points in all likelihood.
