Doing my first Roman Restoration-game tonight I just had an independence faction declare war upon me. The faction, being led by the Doux of Damietta, backed primarily by the Despots of Armenia and Syra, didn't seem to be too much of an issue, and when the war started I marched my 20 000 man strong retinue from Alexandria into Damietta. Immediately when I crossed the border I got the 'Rebels get support from brigands'-event and suddenly 150 000 men popped up in the duchy -> I got my butt kicked and did a rare rage-quit. Anyway, is this working as intended or was it just ridiculously bad luck on my part? I've encountered the event before when Jerusalem and Syria rebelled together, and then Jerusalem got some 25000 extra men, which seemed descent enough.

It is working as intended unfortunately but is a completely stupid design decision to give a revolting faction masses of troops out of thin air. Personally, I don't mind it happening, but the amount needs to be scaled to somewhat sensible amounts, they shouldn't get anymore than what they could already raise, so their total force should be no more than double what they could field originally.

I've not found a way to mod the amount, but you can reduce the chance of the event to zero if you so wish.

Because we need a challenge...a punch from AI that cannot simply do anything right...we need...WE NEED MORE ZEROES...10k stack does not do the job? Factions are not having enough firepower? MAKE IT 100K STACK ;) surely players will appreciate how we solved this "issue".

I understand what Paradox is doing and i'm all for it BUT the event that pops troops out of thin air is a little crazy. It's aimed at making revolts more of an issue but the later the game goes the more crazy it gets.

Example: Late Game - Byzantine Empire almost finished full restoration of the old empire.

Anyway, I'm a stickler for neat borders so i generally only land 1 noble family in a duchy per kingdom. Rest goes to Bisphops. I'm waiting for the kingdom to drift into my De Jure territory before handing out the title. (Sounds odd i know but i hate my vassals "going off and doing there own thing" so i keep them under my crown law if there is no de jure kingdom title in existance).

Emperor suddenly dies leaving his 14 yr old heir to rule. Tried to buy off vassals but couldn't stop the independence war. 1 month or so into the war Bamm, a 500k army "Appears" on the field. I'm not kidding here. Before I could muster enough troops in the area the war score had shot to 100%. It was all over in about a year or less. I was shocked seeing the "k" next to the army size. Half a million men popped and curbstompt me before i could even get my armies to the location. I basically lost half the duchies in France, England and Spain but what really hurt was the drop to High CA. All my vassal despots start trying to expand outwards which I was able to prevent before.

No rage quit or restart as with the Imp Req CB it's easy to get ur terrirtory back. It just annoyed me to have the de jure drift timer stop and loose the duchies before i could do anything. I literally had NO TIME to get anywhere near enough troops into the area to even attempt to stop it. Entire army of Despot of Italy and Sicily were just a small speed bump. It was like Lord of the Rings with Aragons Ghost army. They came down, kicked the shit out of me and f@#ked off back to god knows where before i could get a boot on a boat...

Don't get me wrong, I like the faction system, i really do. Just not late game or that many troops in one hit in the one location. What determines the number of troops? Has anyone located the script file?

The problem is, to me, warscore - a civil war should NEVER reach 100% if they don't control at least the capital, if not the entire demesne. The duke/king/emperor power base is still intact - WHY should you reach -100% because they are occupying Egypt while you are a Catalonian Hispania?

Anyhow, the spawning units should be limited to, at the very most, +100% and they should suffer attrition.. unless they're zombies that do not need to eat?

They reach 100% if they want to overthrow you, too.

That would be okay, but with a warscore of 100% they literaly force me to surrender. They might get their independence (they acutaly have it when the war starts as you can see)! But why the hell should I accept defeat when I have not lost any of my armies? When my powerbase is intact? When the majority of the realm is loyal to me, when there was actualy NO battle? Just Sieges? Why the hell do I have to give up because they took some unimportant province, filled with uncivilised scum that even might not be christian?!
