So I've recently gotten a new PC, Stellaris was working fine for a while (or maybe I was just lucky) Suddenly started crashing randomly. I've been running test games and it can happen anywhere from the first few days to 20 years in. I've verified the game files removed all mods reinstalled the game I've tried running with opengl full screen compatibility anything from the known issues and stability post.

Unhandled exception C0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address 0x00000000000006F4

This is what the crash log gives me. Error log is empty.

EDIT: one thing I missed was adding it to windows defender exceptions and I'm currently in the longest test game so far wish me luck lads
EDIT2: still crashed eventually

Disabling mods does not remove effects they have already had on the saved game/galaxy. Does this happen in a galaxy that has never had any mods used in it?

If so and it is reproducible from a save game file, please attach that here, thanks.

And DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

I've used a new game on every subsequent test. I'm currently installing it on a different drive to see if that helps. The error log is usually empty on fresh install test runs only when I use mods is there anything in there. Crash rate doesn't change, however. Once this install is done I'll do another test run and attatch stuff.

I see you are running the game in openGL mode - why is that please? That's only intended for diagnostic purposes, not general play. If you remove that launch option do you still get these problems with a new test galaxy?

I see. Can I get new copies of those files taken after a crash when openGL was removed, thanks. Plus Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/error.log

You mentioned Windows Defender above - that is your ownly antivirus app, is that right? Did you add the game to the firewall exceptions only, or also Ransomeware?

The only other thing I see in those new files is a Bluescreen , which was not in your previous dxdiag. They are almost always driver or hardware faults. Was that associated with this game, or something else? Next time you get one record the text on that screen, as it can point to the cause of that problem.

Firewall only. And it is my only antivirus at the moment.
In the Windows search box enter Ransomware. Enable Controlled Folder Access if disabled, then add stellaris.exe to the Apps Allowed Throuhg list in there.
Yes, it was also during the game, "machine_check_exception"
That, I'm afraid, is virtually certainly a hardware fault. Most commonly memory or CPU but can be other components on the system board. Sorry that's happened to you!

That only happened when I installed it on my D drive (the HD) it doesn't when it's on my SSD or external HD. I've had some issues with the HD before (it would vanish completely and then reappear) I've been told this is either a faulty HD or a SATA cable, I don't know I'm not very knowledgeable about PCs. When Stellaris is installed on C or F I just get a crash or freezing and becoming unresponsive.

EDIT: adding it to ransomware exceptions didn't help either
