Crashing when starting a new game

I've been playing (and LOVING) the game since shortly after it came out... But suddenly today, when I attempted to start a new game as the UK, the game just crashed from the load screen while the game was attempting to start. Thinking it might just be a bug with the UK, I tried a new game as Italy as well, and the same thing happened. I'm now unable to start any new games -- I can only resume play from my save game files.

What gives? I want to get some Brit action going

Only two possible things I can think of: either you have a glitch in a config or db file (are you using any files you have modded?) or you have Vista and are not running as an administrator. If it's neither of those, I'm stumped (but let us know anyway).

Did you change your native computer screen video resolution? I would always crash at 1900 X 1200 resolution until I either deleted the Binkplay video in avi directory (just rename the entire avi directory to say "avi_old") or went to a 1024 X 768 screen resolution.

Paradox tech support could not figure this one out for me but I did.
