Crashing on Startup before Main Menu

Hi all - apologies if this is a topic that has come up before, but I couldn't find any solutions on these forums or elsewhere.

When loading Elder Scrolls, CK2 consistently crashes just before reaching the main menu (the loading bar will get just to the end, then the music stops, and shortly after the game crashes to desktop).

I'm using the new release, 0.2.1, and my game version is 2.8.3.1 (but it had the same problem on 2.8.0). I've tried with all DLCs enabled and all DLCs disabled, and it makes no difference. This also only happens with the Elder Kings mod activated - the vanilla game runs with no problems.

Any ideas to how I can solve this?

There was a crash associated with mods using game version 2.8.3.1, I would suggest installing the hotfix version 2.8.3.2 that was released by Paradox. If that doesn't work, you'll need to remove the mod from your computer to make sure no lingering files are causing issues. It should be in the documents/paradox interactive/crusader kings II folder.
