Crash when loading a particular campaign

So the savegame crashes when I click the "load" button, before I get to character selection. The same thing with the autosave and the older autosave (of the same campaign) but other saves work. I'm really hoping there's some workaround for this and those saves aren't completely broken.

Did you use big mods with the save that doesn't load or is it an old save like from pre-2.1 or just vanilla ?
Ironman or not and cloud saves or local ?

A little bit more info is always helpful...

No Ironman, no mods, all dlcs, local save. It had to be on the next to last patch when I started the campaign, I think it started to lag a bit right after I downloaded the 2.3.1 patch.

Hmm....so not the usual suspects.
Could you upload one of the files that cause a crash at loading ? Then i could try it myself to see if it is a local problem or if the files are indeed simply broken.
If they are indeed broken, then your only hope is the official tech support which should start around....this time.

They crash for me too. Are you a custom made empire in this game ? By what i see in the save files there is some reference to it.
Do you have any other recent save with a custom empire title that works ?

If not, i suspect some bug in relation to custom empires, but i could be wrong
and the cause something completely different.

Yes, it's a custom empire. I don't have any other custom empire playthroughs, but I have one with HRE that works fine.

Admittedly that was just a guess on unusal lines i saw, but i'm not used to new stuff from CM. I'm not sure how to analyse one of those files properly.
I hope tech support has a better idea, sorry.

Were these saves written by 2.3 or 2.2.1? If the latter you can roll back to that and try them under that version.

I tried to roll back by clicking on "Properties/Betas" and tried to load on all possible versions and also disabled all dlcs but it didn't work.

Were these saves written by 2.3.x ? If so, I think it's worth logging a new bug on this situation.

I'm sorry, logging what? The saves should be 2.3.1 version.

I'm saying I will log a new bug (defect) report, if you are confirming that these crashing save files were all written by a game version 2.3 or later.

Alright, that bug is logged and those saves attached, thanks. There's really nothing that can be done now except to try those saves under nay new patches that come out, as I can't predict when a fix will appear.
