Crash to desktop after auto save

I have been playing Stellaris on an HP latop for a few weeks not. Loving it. I found the initial install would not work (direct x and such) but the game played fine. I let this run because it seemed like it froze and after around 10 minutes it completed. Since then I have found the game seems to crash during auto save roughly 10 minutes in. The odd thing is the game is running and it just switches to desktop with the cursor still showing like I am in stellaris. When I try and switch back the cursor switches to windows, then back to stellaris cursor but the game does not come up. I moved the save file to my desktop and it played fine for about 15 minutes so it seems like it is specific to this laptop. I checked and I have direct x 11, windows updates runs normally.

Could this be a video driver? It's an onboard video, or some other issue. I searched for the same post and have not seen anything similar yet.

Can I grab your version number and checksum (View able in your game's main menu screen)?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/system.log files, thanks.

Sorry, should have set this in tech support to begin with. Was not thinking. Been a LONG time since I needed tech support where I could not find an existing answer.

Your Intel video driver is out of date. See if HP have a newer one for you, if not you'll have to do a manual install from the Intel site.

Try running their .exe install first . If it refuses to install (ie HP have restricted you to their drivers, not the generic Intel ones) you’ll need to use the .zip version

I'm not promising that's the cause of the crashes, but it needs to be dealt with regardless IMO.

After 2 hours it's working fine, as I expected. It crashed on me twice and I thought it was a fluke, just reboot and restart. 3rd time I noticed a pattern and realized what had just installed. Once I posted this i had a feeling it was just a driver issue. Thanks for the help on this one. On a side note, I did have to install from the HP website. HP elitebook 9480m model, google search for it came right up.
