I'm running Linux (Fedora), and CK2 via Steam has worked fine, even this morning, until now. I had everything is the DLC Collection installed, and when the rest went on sale on Steam today, I got and installed them, too.

After that, the game crashes right after loading the Paradox logo screen. Every time.

I tried reinstalling, I tried reinstalling without DLCs. Still the same crash, right after the logo.

I tried reinstalling on the beta channel, and that worked, so I can play (DLCs seem to be working, too), but you should know something is broken in 2.1.4. Maybe to do with the lack of a launcher?

Might be connected to the following issue here.

Do you have the Persian Unit pack installed? If so, that would be the issue.

From the other thread:

Thanks for all your help in troubleshooting this. I've located and fixed the bug. It should be in the next patch.

For now, as a workaround, disable the Persian Units DLC, by either disabling it in the launcher (if you're on the beta branch), or deleting the dlc043.dlc and dlc043.zip files.

Are you sure Persian Unit pack is not installed? According to your list you bought it. If you navigate to where Steam installed Crusader II which should be something like ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Crusader Kings II
Then you should see a folder called DLC and do you in there have the files called dlc043.dlc and dlc043.zip?

Sory for my bad english, i'm french.

Regarding the DLC seemingly not being installed:
Steam will usually display it (the DLC) as installed after you run CK2 the first time with the new DLC.
No idea why.
--------
Location in Windows:
"A common location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii." So look for the equivalent to "Program Files" in Linux or wherever you installed Steam.
----------
Regarding the crash:
It's either the aforementioned Persian Unit DLC causing it, so disable the DLC in the launcher....or some program missing (In Windows its DirectX/NET/Visual++), but i have no clue about Linux.
-----------

Sory for my bad english, i'm french.

If you have troubles with english, i recommend the RGS forum of the Strategium Alliance homepage. The french subforum is not very active here. Search for "Strategium Alliance" and "CK2" and take the forum link to find it.

-----------

As this seems to be more of a technical issue on your side, please post your own thread in the Tech Support Subforum.
edit: I see you did. Please don't crosspost and start your own threads if possible. Its encouraged here in Bug and Tech support subforums.

Steam give me a personal key for the game, i use it here for my profile, but nowhere else.

Correct. It's to get access for the Tech, Mod and Bug subforums.

I did understand your last sentence as a question, as in "I don't see how to use my key? " or such. If it wasn't a question, then sorry. Moi pas french. ;)

I'm having the same....? -Or similar at any rate issues with my CKII. Since purchasing it, and lots of the DLCs (NOT the Persian Unit Pack though, interestingly enough) it runs very poorly, if at all.

When launched through Steam, I'm lucky to get through 1 year without a Runtime C++ crash, and lots of other hanging weirdness during play. Some background, I played a *ahem* 'creatively obtained' (i.e., torrent) version of CK2 for about a year on the same machine (had all DLC's up to Old Gods) with no issue. All traces of that old install (and saves, etc.) were wiped from this computer prior to buying downloading CK2 through Steam.

Additionally, saves behave REALLY weird... Most often, they never appear in my C:\User\BlahBlah\My Documents\Paradox_Blah folder. Usually saving is also a great way to force a Runtime C++ error. Bitchen'.

I tried uninstalling everything yesterday and redownloading/installing from scratch, and nothing changed.. -Well, not exactly true.. Today, no coats of arms show up for any kingdoms/counties on the main map - everyone just shows a black shield or banner. & I'm still Runtime crashing and saves are not working correctly.

My PC is a POS (Piece of Sublime :p)
Win-7 Ultimate, 2gb RAM, 60gb Free Space, C++ 2005, 2008 SP-1, 2012 SP-1 installed.

Not sure what to try next, honestly.. I'm wondering if there's some particular rev of C++ that this rev of CK2 is hellbent on using, though I'm pretty sure what-with-all the save game strangeness & "black shield" BS, there's several things that are messed up.

If anyone has any suggestions, give a shout!

~Back to combing the forums for a few clues for me! :)

This thread is about a crash on Linux only, triggered by the Persian DLC. You have Windows and do not have the Persian DLC. Consequently you do not have the same problem.

Please start a fresh thread in Tech Support, and I'll help you there.
