So, I've been increasingly having a problem loading save games. When I click on the save, it goes into an hourglass mode for a minute or two, flickers for a second on the "Click to continue or click on the map to select another character from your game" screen, and then completely exits, no error message.

For a comparison, I've tried just starting a new game from the base year. Opens with no problem.

Now, I have a hunch, and I'm curious if this seems reasonable. I'm running a Windows Vista Dell laptop with 3 gigs of RAM and a Dual Core 2 GHz processor. It takes a while for CK2 to boot up with nothing running in the background other than Steam, running hot all the while, and I don't think this bug was happening until about 1150 (1056 start time). I looked up my save, and at this point it's about 30 megs of data. Is it possible that my computer can't handle the sheer amount of data that is generated in a hundred years of history?

I hope that's not it, because I'm this close to conquering Aswan, putting me one duchy away from the Empire of Abyssinia.

Steam reports integrity in game cache. Patched to 1.11. Playing with the bundle that includes all DLC except Old Gods and EU-IV exporter.

30mb is on the small side. There was a bug in 1.11 that allowed saves to grow continuously, and it wasn't until they got to 100s of mb that visible problems started to occur. Your issue is elsewhere.

What version and checksum show on the main game menu? Are you loading any mods?

Does this only happen on saves form this one game? If so it may simply be corrupt. If you start a new game at, say, 1200, save it, exit, and re-load it - does that load OK?

May as well check out the hardware side of things too, please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload).

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU) 1/ before starting the game up and 2/ after say 20 minutes' play. If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install SPEEDFAN or GPU-Z.

Version: 1.111 (MLYP). No Mods, just the listed DLC.

Files attached. The Error message is... instructive, I guess? I'd started a game at 1260, saved, quit, and then reloaded to a functional game. The save is only 20 megs, though, so I guess it doesn't hold data for unplayed years.

Temperatures are at 60C for Core 0 and 1 without the game running.WIth, they're mid seventies. Ought to pick up some compressed air next time I'm at Target, I guess, but I don't know if that's all that's at issue.

Just realized that the error.txt was a different problem. So reproduced the actual issue by loading the save and watching it crash.

Error text: [texturehandler.cpp:181]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx//coats_of_arms//dynasties3.tga.
