Crash bug when playing as Germany

At seemingly random times, my game crashes to desktop from CORE 4.0. The only consistent time for the crashes are when elements of captured nations are attempting to join the SS. When the pop-up appears to announce the additions to the SS, the game pauses, then crashes if my cursor moves over the pop-up window.

Has anyone else run into the same problem? My game has all the up-to-date patches and I've played many many campaigns prior to the 4.0 version with no similar problems.

Here's hoping there are some other Germany players out there!

Mine did the same thing. I went in and changed the end dates so the events wouldn't happen and the crashes stopped.

Please give us a little more details: Which event are affected ? Are all similar events affected or only some specific.
My German game is currently in 1944 and i had no problem with those events yet.
I'm playing on Hard/normal with standard icons, flavour events and B/W image pack.

I'm on Easy with standard icons, flavour events on and colour image pack.

There haven't been any successful additions to the SS, and I'm in Feb 1942. Most of the eastern bloc countries have been annexed and each pop-up has only come up once, i.e. Serbian recruits to the SS crashes the game once, I restart from my saved game and continue but have not seen other pop-ups from the same country. Others keep trying (Hungary, Croatia, etc) but never the same group twice.

The SS upgrades function normally, as the LAH has kept developing, so the crash appears to be limited to the SS recruitment events.

Bleedingorange - which file do you modify to change these dates? I'm not much of a modder, but I can change text files if it's contained within one of those.

I changed events 379904 through 379917. These are the Foreign SS division activation events. I changed the death dates to 1939 so they won't fire. I haven't had any problem with the other SS activation events. Hope this helps.

Edit. The file location is Mod-core2, DB, events, other, Core_SS. You may have to change authorization to overright the file.

Thanks for the hint - I've changed the dates for the events and I'll post again if I keep getting the crashes.

I've reviewed the SS event file to see if there was anything there that looked as though it would cause a crash, but I can't see anything obvious. It seems odd that no-one has reported this as a problem before - what operating system etc do you use ? Vista can sometimes have some odd effects.

I am using vista, playing N/N with flavour events and chose to include all in the SS. I kept getting CTDs when a Foreign recruitment event popped up. I then tried to manually run the ones I listed above using F12 and all of them crashed the game.

It shouldn't be Vista-related, as I'm running XP. I made the changes as Bleedingorange suggested and haven't had any crashes yet (six months of gate-time). I'm at Aug 42 now.

I noticed that if there was another simultaneous pop-up, I could acknowledge that one (tech finished, for example) but if I moused over the open pop-up for the SS recruitment, then it crashed.

I too had 'accept all volunteers', but I'm not sure what would happen if one of the limited SS options had been selected.

I had my first non-SS related crash in Nov 42. Same appearance as the other crashes, but no pop-up for SS volunteers.

It may still be related to the same problem, as my cursor may have been over the area where the pop-up was to have occurred, but it happened too fast to see.

I'll keep going and see what happens.
