You can actually see this happening if you have fps tracker or something to track your fps. Zoom in really close, fps goes to shit, zoom out all the way, smooth as butter.
A lot of misinformation here. Rendering and simulating are two completely different parts. Ofc. the FPS goes down when there's more to render, but zoom in to a empty place: smoother as zooming out! This is caused by the GPU (and partly by the CPU - DirectX or OpenGL overhead, feeding the GPU with new data, ...) but we talk about the CPU here! So install the Traffic Report Tool, then click on a road with high traffic and zoom out till you can't see any cars. Do the red lines showing the simulated traffic go away? Ofc. not as simulating never stops and, again, the more Cims, the more it has to simulate, so the higher the CPU load.

A lot of misinformation here.

Everything in my post is a fact, to deny it is only making yourself look foolish.

I didn't deny anything, I just got into a deeper level of understanding where the real problem might rest (english isn't my native language so maybe my first sentence sounded more harsh than I meaned it). The thread is about high CPU load with 150000 Cims, not about low frame rate with many assets in sight. On a modern PC the rendering shouldn't have high effects on the CPU (for me zooming makes a difference of maybe 5 FPS). The Vulkan API might reduce this effect even more (and I'm sure C:SL will use Vulkan). Also my first reply was directed to a guy stating "things you can't see have no effect on the CPU" and you're supporting this false claim.
well duh...
Well... what? Do you say I'm spreading misinformation now or what do you want to say with that uninformative statement?

I really don't want to be disrespectful but please tell me where I say any wrong word so we can start discussing this like grown-ups.

OK guys, I am back. Thank you all for tips and reactions. Now back to core of the thread.

I actually didn´t play more, so I shooted video with 150 000 citizens only. It is happening on 7 activated squares.
I wanted to be sure that it is not affected by graphic card so I decreased details/textures level that is VRAM demanding(at least I ve always thought it is :-D).
I made sure that broadcasting settings don´t affect game UNLESS somebody really watching.
Unzoomed it was mostly around 60FPS(as far as I found out, game says to my graphic controller for adaptive sync automatically). Zoomed it went down to 35 FPS.

Do not laugh about my lame traffic and that I play normal mod(no hard). This CITY grown of my second try! Which is quite succes, first time I wasted all the money at beginning :).

btw there has happened little bug accidentally :-D

Normally I play with traffic tool and auto bulldoze, so it takes 5% more of whole proccesor.

I will show my own when/IF ever reaching 200k citizens and say my experience.

Please now show me YOUR experience from game :).

I haven this same issue with my i7-3970k and my GTX 780 3gb. It's just the game. I'm up to over 425k ad it still does it. lol

You traffic looks better than mine. lol

You mean the ship? lol I see that in other games, but haven't noticed on mine yet. probably I have only a tiny space for ships and I use it for cargo ships.

Normally I play with traffic tool and auto bulldoze, so it takes 5% more of whole proccesor.

I use auto-bulldoze too. You just have to late game, unless you like playing whack-a-mole lol.

What is this traffic tool and what does it do?

How did you capture the whole screen. I have fraps, but it only captures the current window. It won't pickup cpu-z, gpu-z, nor windows process manager.

I use the 81 tiles mod and I have stuff built EVERYWHERE (roads, water tower, cities zetc) and a lower config than yours and it works just fine :s

What is this traffic tool and what does it do?

Look at this
, all mods he mention are good.
Traffic tool... well, simply: I press icon of magnifying glass, then I press part of road where is traffic jam. It will show me what vehicles are using it and their exact plan of drive. I find out that 2/3 of vehicles are trucks from nearest industry zone. So I ban heavy trafic on that road, build new one and maybe shorter road from industry zone to ... let's say motorway. Because I know where FROM they go and where TO.
With your 400k people it can prove useful ;).

How did you capture the whole screen. I have fraps, but it only captures the current window. It won't pickup cpu-z, gpu-z, nor windows process manager.

I used Shadowplay http://vashcz.rajce.idnes.cz/Shadowplay . It is part of Experience(by NVIDIA). If you don´t have Experience I recomend it, sometimes it can help you when you are not sure about graphic settings.
I also set GPU_Z and Task Manager as "always on top" in their settings. Ofc better ways exist, to show GPU/CPU usage, but I didn't want to install more (soon)useless stuff.

With GTX 780 it will take like 1% of CPU and 3% of GPU usage for this game. ... nothing. It is hardware accelerated recording just like AverMedia thingies, but I think Avers are using older codecs(...maybe, this is my second video ever I didn't check :-D).
I almost forgot to mention - you can stream through this program directly to Twitch(integrated).
Actually AMD has "Broadcasting"in Raptr. The same elements, but not so perfect yet.

Here's my 425k pop with my i3 cpu and gtx 650 Ti.

Thanks for the link to the mods. That traffic tool looks like it will do the trick for me.

I ended up finding th Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 plus the screen capture add-on.

I have the nvidia geforce experience and I'll try the shadow play. it may be easier. The twitch option may be useful.

Sorry for stupid question, but what is Ofc?

425k people it performs great! Down to 20 average FPS is nothing special, but on top of that you have got 1GB VRAM version of 650ti so here s possibility to have game slowed due to this.
Try lower texture quality to medium or low... of course even if it helped it's up to you... more FPS or nice graphics :).
Shadowplay will work for 650ti too. Unfortunatelly I can not guarantee that your FPS remain untouched.

"heaven" is have or haven't :-D? Where is GTX 780 with that superproccesor? If you tried to capture on the more powerful PC, please http://www.technize.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/CPU-utilization-of-logical-processors.jpg . I am very interested in usage of all threads.

Sorry, I wasn't clear on my post. My post was to show how well my tiny i3 processor and lowly 650 Ti can run this game with unlocked 25-tile that is 3/4 of the way full.

I mean minimum requirements is a quad core CPU, and recommended requirements is GTX 660 and both requirements are for 9-tile cities. I'm at over 15-tiles on the default high settings and still very playable. Which requirements say I shouldn't even be able to play even on lowest settings.

It is, "I have the same issue with my i7 and 780 with the graphics lag when zooming in. I mean my i3 has nearly the same performance as my main gaming rig. There is definitely some optimization issues with the game still.

as for CPU usage on my i7, it is about 60% on speed 1, and nearly 100% on speed 3. My i3 is 100% at any speed.

I have noticed though, that if I increase game speed to speed 2 or speed 3, the game stayed at speed 1. I thought maybe this was the capture mode or something. But on retest without capture or anything running but 25-tile and fps mod, the game still doesn't process the faster speeds. I believe it to be related to the 100% CPU usage. The game can't run any faster as the CPU has no more resources.

on my i7, I can get a big bump from speed 1 to speed 2, but when I go from speed 2 to speed 3, it is just a tiny gain, so unnoticeable I had to zoom into a freeway to notice the tiny increase in speed. It may also be related to very full cpu usage.

So if you can run the multi-speeds fine in early games and can't in mid or late game, then your CPU may be the issue.

I'll try to test my i7 later and upload the video results.
