I'd be interested how you've done that on the technical side, since the features obviuosely stack. Did you make individual versions of every combination? That would seem like so much work I can't imagine that is true. Anyway, I'm really fascinated![]()
Surprise!
Some traits stacked:

Now to some feedback on the individual items:
UGLY: Like it. Well I guess there are people who look more ugly (maybe Tyrion Lannister, but that could be shown by stacked with "maimed" I guess), but it is a good representation.
FAIR: Like it. Though I'm not sure what you have done excactly. Block some features that would previousely be applied? Or smoothed the skin?
DRUNKARD: Like it. The red cheeks are noticable, but not intrusive.
STRESSED: Like it. Dark circles around the eyes? Perfect
MAIMED: Not sure. Potentially a little bit repetitive, but assuming that is the only frame available. It would be strange if everyone got maimed at the exact same spot. Visually good, though.
POSSESSED: Dislike it. It has been said by others already, but that just looks like the person actually IS a demon, not possessed by one. We should remember a lot of the "possessed" cases actually represent mental illnesses unknown in the middle ages. So Maybe keep the idea of enlarged, whitened eyes, but toned down a whole lot.
DEPRESSED: Like it. Crying that can't be hidden anymore, seems plausible. Also visually well executed.
PLAGUE: Like it. Not much else to say.
INFIRM: Like it. Drooling, if I see correctly? Good idea.
INCAPABLE: Dislike it. I really can't spot a distinctive feature here, especially since that one should be more severe than "infirm". Is it the red things under the eyes? Because - maybe especially on this skin tone - it could also be some sort of makeup or war paint imo. Maybe combine it with the features from infrim, since the two can't stack anyway?
MEASLES: Like it.
ILL: Like it. But just to be sure, it's the white space around the eyes? Because if that's it, you will definitely have to rework slavic women first, or else they will look like normal humans when ill
LUNATIC: Like it. Arguably it does not fulfill all stereotypes of lunatics, but it's distinctive and well exectued, so I think that's enough for a game. But does it work properly with beards?
LEPER: Like it.
Ok, well that seems logical. Not all features stack. The traits are divided into 3-4 layers. So you can stack those together. For example, fair and ugly are not possible to have together, so they are on the same layer, meaning you cant use them on the same portrait.
Ah, ok. Guess it just isn't that noticable in the picture then, and I can only give proper feedback once I have seen it in-game.Incapable is more noticeable in lighter characters and usually male. They have bruised heads to simulate getting knocked in the head a few times too much.
Hmm...Possessed is something i have already revisited, but it seems i will need to completely rethink it to match the "epileptic" description rather than a demonic one. Since i am away from my computer, ese, can you post a pic of the current possessed trait? Id like some community feedback.
Edit: found a pic from a fellow HIP hopper.

Indeed.I don't think portraying homosexuals as lunatics is morally or socially acceptable.View attachment 136721
Maybe you can put the lunatic face for the possessed + homosexual trait?![]()
Yes, and it should be as simple as setting up a character flag. That means adding modified event file(s), though, and for compatibility reasons I don't want to go down that road.I'm not really certain that the possessed trait necessarily needs a visual indicator on its own, as the flavour of possession is defined by event rather than trait. Is it possible to make portrait modifiers based on the later events? At least with that you could keep the horror design for the specifically demonic flavoured ones.
Possible and easy. All of the traits that add graphics in CPRplus are not congenital, so chances are diseases don't and shouldn't define someone's life - so I wholly agree with your suggestion. Would you still like to see graphics for diseases that are seriously life-threatening, as you seem to prefer?Other suggestion: is it possible to disable certain portrait effects if the character is dead? Many distant relative now having the disease features postmortem makes for a very poxy ancestry. Obviously not for permanent traits, but the dynasty might prefer to remember their ancestors minus the buboes.

I will make some adjustments along those lines. Another thing I just thought of is keeping the Maimed or Wounded graphics visible if the cause of death is an accident.. . . My issue was more that, as you say, the cause of death need not define the last image that exists for a character. Obviously a character that died while blind should remain blind, but the dead need not also look ill.
Yes, that is actually an oversight. That graphic is for syphilis, not gonorrhea. Thanks for pointing it out!Addendum: I did also have an issue with the effect that was used for gonorrhea, as that disease is not nearly so obviously visible and is more appropriate for syphilis. The confusing part here is that Paradox renamed the diseases with Sunset Invasion and so the gonorrhea trait's id is "syphilis" and syphilis's trait id is "has_aztec_disease".
For the HIP release yesterday, I made tone adjustment to Norman female eyes and included them with sifsilver's approval. I'm a lot of more a novice when it comes to graphical editing skills; how do the eyes look? Do they fit in nicely with the rest of the facial elements?Norse Faces: I've never been a huge fan of the Norse portraits in general. If there was an option to make them use the modified western faces, I'd probably take that. That being said, what they are now is a colossal improvement over the default Norse portrait set. That set honestly made me wince. This...actually fits thematically with the rest, and it looks pretty good. Considering what you had to work with, the state they're in now is an incredible accomplishment.
I take it that you are referring to the female lips? I absolutely share the same opinion, and I told sifsilver as much.Celtic Faces: . . . That being said, they actually don't look bad. My main issue with them is the lips. They look...jarring, somehow. Too big, too bright, something to that effect?

CPRplus doesn't add new hair for Western males, so you can only switch GFX_celtic_male_hair. . . to GFX_western_male_hair. The mod DOES add new Western beards, though, so you may choose between german and western for beards.Awesome post! Will get back to you on the eyes once I have a chance to study them. A question concerning the code: Does that modify the faces only or also set the hair to the default 'german' hair? By the looks of the code it keeps the Celtic style hair, but just figured I'd ask before I went in and started rewriting it.
Similarly, I don't think portraying schizophrenics or those with other mental illnesses that might've been interpreted as "possessed" as having bleeding demon eyes without retinas is particularly representative.Indeed.
That would be the mistake again of mixing up the "perception by society" with the actual physical appearance.
While the medieval society might very well have thought gay people to be possessed by demons, they clearly weren't/aren't. And also I am pretty sure the gay people I know don't look that way.
Anyway, imo that picture just looks like the guy is angry, not possessed.
Oh, that's neat. I'll take a look at it once I'm done with other stuff. Also, I seriously doubt that those events would actually require any kind of override (the characters are already internally flagged as demon spawn and such by the events that trigger off them). The only part that would take a little work is simply auditing all the possessed event chains / arcs to find out which ones are worthy of such extreme representation and what triggers to use in portrait_properties.txt to cover them all.
Very nice mod, though the possessed eyes scared me the first time I saw them.
Yeah every time I see my possessed intrigue councilor and shudder at his white eyes. And I wonder if he's plotting to murder me.
